About this tool
This application allows the display and query of mean, 25th, and 75th percentile groundwater recharge data resulting from a soil-water-balance model developed to estimate the mean annual water budget for the period 1996 through 2015 and the annual water budget for a drought-year in 2001 for Fauquier county, Virginia, USA (Figure 1).

Soil-Water-Balance (SWB): A modified Thornthwaite-Mather model for estimating groundwater recharge
The Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model has been developed to allow estimates of potential recharge to be made quickly and easily. The code calculates components of the water balance at a daily time-step by means of a modified version of the Thornthwaite-Mather soil-moisture-balance approach.
Documentation of a Soil-Water-Balance Model to estimate recharge to Blue Ridge, Piedmont, and Mesozoic Basin fractured-rock aquifers, Fauquier County, Virginia, 1996 through 2015
This report documents a Soil-Water-Balance (SWB) model that was developed for an area covering the Blue Ridge, Piedmont, and Mesozoic basin fractured-rock aquifers in Fauquier County, Virginia, for the calendar years 1996–2015. The SWB model includes an area of 1,498 square miles, divided into 1,076-square-foot (100-square-meter) grid cells on which daily groundwater recharge was estimated using e
