Treatment of East Bay, Alger County, Michigan, with toxaphene for control of sea lampreys

An experiment was conducted to determine whether toxaphene can be used to eradicate lake-dwelling sea lampreys and to determine its effect on fish populations. The distribution and abundance of planktonic diatoms in Lake Superior

The principal diatoms collected at 14 stations in Lake Superior were Cyclotella "glomerata-stelligera" [= C. glomerata and C. stelligera combined], Cyclotella "ocellata-kutzingiana", Fragilaria crotonensis, and Rhizosolenia eriensis. Field application methods for recovery of the selective lampricide, 3-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrophenol

Colorimetric methods are described for the detection of residues of the selective lampricide, 3-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrophenol (TFM), in natural waters and fish tissues. Solvent extraction and anion exchange were used to separate and concentrate the lampricide, and to reduce high background colors which often interfere with the determinations. Detection and measurement of organic lampricide residues

Changes in the bottom fauna of western Lake Erie from 1930 to 1961

Samples were collected at 40 stations in western Lake Erie in 1961 to determine the species composition, distribution, and abundance of macrobenthonic organisms and to document changes since 1930, when a similar survey was made. Age, growth, maturity, and fecundity of 'humper' lake trout, Isle Royale, Lake Superior

Humper lake trout are one of the several races or subpopulations of lake trout in Lake Superior. This study is based on 3,705 fish collected on a reef south of Isle Royale near the eastern end. Fat content of the flesh of siscowets and lake trout from Lake Superior

Samples of flesh were excised from the middorsal region of 67 siscowets (Salvelinus namaycush siscowet) and 46 lake trout (Salvelinus n. namaycush) collected from Lake Superior.
