Impacts of Invasive Species

Invasive species are dramatically altering Great Lakes aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, and additional invasives await just outside the region. Environmental managers need to understand both the impacts of current invasive species on the ecosystem and the likely impacts of potential invasives. The GLSC conducts research to explain how invasive species, such as dreissenid mussels, are impacting both ecosystems and the services those ecosystems provide. Some studies seek to clarify risk associated with the introduction of new invasive species, such as Asian carp. Results of this research directly impact invasive species management throughout the basin.
