Tree ring dataset for a regional avalanche chronology in northwest Montana, 1636-2017 Tree ring dataset for a regional avalanche chronology in northwest Montana, 1636-2017
This dataset includes processed tree ring data from avalanche paths in Glacier National Park and the Flathead National Forest in northwest Montana. The data were processed in three distinct phases that resulted in this dataset: collection, processing, and avalanche signal analysis. This dataset consists of samples from 647 trees with 2304 growth disturbances identified from 12 avalanche...
Glacier National Park alpine aquatic invertebrates, 2011-2013 Glacier National Park alpine aquatic invertebrates, 2011-2013
This data release incorporates high-resolution geospatial and biological data and accompanies a peer-reviewed manuscript "Specialized meltwater biodiversity persists despite widespread deglaciation". In this study, we tested the prediction that glacier retreat reduces biodiversity in mountain ecosystems through the loss of uniquely adapted meltwater stream species in Glacier National...
Soil sample locations for chronic wasting disease prion surveillance in Grand Teton National Park and National Elk Refuge 2019 Soil sample locations for chronic wasting disease prion surveillance in Grand Teton National Park and National Elk Refuge 2019
A total of 200 soil samples were collected in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge in July 2019 for chronic wasting disease (CWD) monitoring purposes. To collect samples from locations where ungulates are most likely to be shedding or encountering CWD, we targeted elk collar data locations, known migration routes of mule deer and elk...
Microsatellite data for American bullfrogs in the Yellowstone River Montana, 2013-2017 Microsatellite data for American bullfrogs in the Yellowstone River Montana, 2013-2017
We used 7 microsatellites to characterize the invasion genetics of 528 American bullfrogs sampled from the Yellowstone River floodplain (Montana). American bullfrog samples were collected from a 140 km section of the Yellowstone River near Billings, MT in 2013 - 2017.
Bighorn sheep Ovine HD array genotypes from National Parks, 2004-2011 Bighorn sheep Ovine HD array genotypes from National Parks, 2004-2011
Between 2004 and 2011 bighorn sheep were darted in Glacier National Park and in Dinosaur National Monument. Blood was drawn. These are the genotypes resulting from an Ovine HD array from the bighorns. The first 3 columns refers to bighorn sheep identifiers: 'Herd_Unit', 'IndID', and 'AgencyID'. IndID is the identifier assigned at Montana State University. Subsequent columns each...
A comprehensive inventory of perennial snow and ice in Glacier National Park in 2005 A comprehensive inventory of perennial snow and ice in Glacier National Park in 2005
These polygon features represent a comprehensive inventory of perennial snow and ice on the landscape in Glacier National Park (GNP) in 2005. The imagery used to delineate perennial snow and ice was taken late season, therefore, all snow and ice present on the landscape is assumed to be perennial. Whether each polygon is "perennial snow and ice" or "active glacial ice" is included...
Detection histories of grizzly bears in Grand Teton National Park, 2014-2015 Detection histories of grizzly bears in Grand Teton National Park, 2014-2015
This dataset contains detection histories of grizzly bears in areas of Grand Teton National Park that are open for elk harvest as part of the Elk Reduction Program. Sampling followed a robust design analysis with 6 primary sampling periods of 4 weekly secondary sampling periods each during 2014-2015. In both years, primary sampling periods were in July-August (no elk hunt), September...
A network of 31 Upper Missouri River Basin naturalized water-year (Oct-Sep) streamflow reconstructions spanning years 800 - 1998 CE A network of 31 Upper Missouri River Basin naturalized water-year (Oct-Sep) streamflow reconstructions spanning years 800 - 1998 CE
Paleohydrologic records provide a valuable perspective on the variability of streamflow and hydroclimate that is critical for water resource planning and placing present day and future conditions into a long-term context. Until now, key insights gained from streamflow reconstructions in the other river basins across the Western U.S. been lacking in the Upper Missouri River Basin due to a...
Water quality data from the Goose Lake Study Site Eastern Montana 1989-2018 Water quality data from the Goose Lake Study Site Eastern Montana 1989-2018
The data set contains temporal chloride concentrations (mg/L) and specific conductance (uS/cm) values for 32 wetlands and groundwater monitoring wells as well as the date(s) sampled and the laboratory where the water quality analyses were conducted. The ratio of chloride concentration to specific conductance is referred to as the Contamination Index. In this region, values greater than 0...
Plant cover data sets for implementing beta distribution based models Plant cover data sets for implementing beta distribution based models
The data were collected every year from 2011 until 2017 at the Clarno unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The areal plots were placed following a random selection of locations based on the GRTS algorithm. There was a fire documented in 2011 and interest is in assessing whether there is evidence of cheatgrass distribution or abundance increasing in the monument post-fire.
Paleohydrologic reconstructions of water-year streamflow for 31 stream gaging sites in the Missouri River Basin with complete data for 1685 through 1977 Paleohydrologic reconstructions of water-year streamflow for 31 stream gaging sites in the Missouri River Basin with complete data for 1685 through 1977
Tree-ring reconstructions of water-year (Oct 1 through Sep 30th) flow for 31 gaging sites in Missouri River basin, with complete data for 1685 through 1977 (n = 293 water years). The complete 105 tree-ring reconstructions of streamflow used in the Nature Scientific Reports paper were obtained from various sources; 74 flow reconstructions were obtained from the web resource, TreeFlow...
Environmental DNA results for large and small volume water samples in mesocosm experiments at Creston Fish Hatchery and field surveys in the Flathead River Basin, MT in 2016 Environmental DNA results for large and small volume water samples in mesocosm experiments at Creston Fish Hatchery and field surveys in the Flathead River Basin, MT in 2016
Quantitative PCR data from mesocosm experiments and field evaluations comparing coarse filter-large water volume environmental DNA samples vs. fine filter-small water volume environmental DNA samples for detection and quantification of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus) DNA. Mesocosm experiments took place at the US Fish & Wildlife Service's...
