Vegetation and land use/land cover of the Altar Valley, AZ mapped from Sentinel-2 data (2024) Vegetation and land use/land cover of the Altar Valley, AZ mapped from Sentinel-2 data (2024)

This data release provides 10-meter vegetation and land-use/land-cover (LULC) maps for the Santa Margarita Ranch and the surrounding Altar Valley and Brawley Wash region of southern Arizona. Maps were generated for 2024 using two complementary Random Forest classification approaches implemented in Google Earth Engine (GEE): (1) a seasonal Sentinel-2 (S2) spectral–topographic model based...

Crop type shapefile of central California in 2020 derived from a satellite embedding product Crop type shapefile of central California in 2020 derived from a satellite embedding product

This data release includes a shapefile of crop type parcels located in the Central Valley of California for the year 2020. These crop types were generated using Google Satellite Embeddings product as the sole input imagery and trained using labeled crop type data with a random forest classifier. There is a total of 9 different crop type classes.

Map of Riparian Vegetation along the San Carlos River and Lower Reaches of the Gila River of the Upper Gila River Watershed for 2023 Map of Riparian Vegetation along the San Carlos River and Lower Reaches of the Gila River of the Upper Gila River Watershed for 2023

Riparian systems across the southwestern United States are immensely important ecosystems and serve as biodiversity hotspots for a number of plant and animal species. However, recent challenges including non-native vegetation expansion, increased wildfire activity, and widespread vegetation die-offs, have substantially impacted the conditions of these ecosystems. This study was...

Pedestrian evacuation time maps and population exposure estimates for Mount Rainier Lahar Zones Pedestrian evacuation time maps and population exposure estimates for Mount Rainier Lahar Zones

Data supporting the journal article titled "Influence of modeling assumptions on pedestrian evacuation success for non-eruptive lahar hazards at Mount Rainier, Washington" as described in the abstract: Previous efforts to characterize lahar threats posed to communities downstream of volcanoes have focused primarily on delineating hazard zones that lack information on lahar-arrival times...

General Soils Map of Los Planes Basin, Baja California Sur Mexico General Soils Map of Los Planes Basin, Baja California Sur Mexico

This dataset contains a 6‑class soils map (30-meter) for the Los Planes basin in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The map was generated using a digital soil mapping approach that incorporates environmental covariables following the SCORPAN (soil, climate, organisms, topography, parent material, age, and time) framework. The data release also includes a point feature class representing...

Discrete surface water hyperspectral data, South San Francisco Bay Discrete surface water hyperspectral data, South San Francisco Bay

Mercury pollution is a concern in aquatic environments where it binds to particles, is methylated, and bioaccumulates in food webs. In systems like San Francisco Bay that have a history of mercury contamination from mining, gold extraction, and industrial activity, tracking mercury in surface waters is critical. We developed the Mercury Mapping and Assessment Pipeline (HgMAP), a novel...

Field-Based Raw Meteorological Station Data for the Los Planes basin in Baja California Sur, Mexico from July 2023 through March 2026 Field-Based Raw Meteorological Station Data for the Los Planes basin in Baja California Sur, Mexico from July 2023 through March 2026

Ground-based field monitoring meteorological stations are used to collect real-time weather and environmental data. Data parameters range from weather variables (i.e., precipitation, wind speed and direction, air temperature, relative humidity, dew point), to environmental variables (i.e., solar radiation, air density, soil conductivity), to station status data (i.e., battery voltage...

Surface Water Mercury Concentrations in South San Francisco Bay, 2022-2024 Derived from Sentinel-2 Imagery Surface Water Mercury Concentrations in South San Francisco Bay, 2022-2024 Derived from Sentinel-2 Imagery

Mercury is a prevalent pollutant and neurotoxin in south San Francisco Bay that forms strong associations with suspended sediments and dissolved organics. Changes in surface water mercury levels have implications for water quality and scale via bioaccumulation to toxicity on higher trophic levels. This dataset includes GeoTIFF raster maps of estimations of surface water mercury...

Fire perimeter, burn severity (dNBR), spatial fire regime and land use data for the North American Cordillera of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, 1985-2022 Fire perimeter, burn severity (dNBR), spatial fire regime and land use data for the North American Cordillera of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, 1985-2022

The data release contains spatial data sets in raster and vector formats that are used to quantify, analyze and visualize recent fire regimes for the Mogollon Rim-Colorado Plateau (also called the Mogollon Highlands), the Sky Islands, or Madrean Archipelago and the Northern Sierra Madre Occidental regions of the United States and Mexico. The data were generated as part of the Southwest...

DEMs of Difference for selected areas of the Los Planes Watershed, Baja California Sur, Mexico 2024 DEMs of Difference for selected areas of the Los Planes Watershed, Baja California Sur, Mexico 2024

These digital elevation models of difference (DEMs of Difference, or DoDs) display topographic change from the targeted stream channel at a controlled watershed #4 and study watershed #1 within the larger Los Planes Watershed. The DoDs are computed from a very-high resolution drone DEM surveyed in 2024 and aerial lidar DEM from 2021.Several processing steps were taken to align DEMs and...

Monthly Raster Imagery, Historic Wetland Boundaries, and Management Period Mean Images for the Cebolla Spring Wetland in New Mexico Monthly Raster Imagery, Historic Wetland Boundaries, and Management Period Mean Images for the Cebolla Spring Wetland in New Mexico

Alluvial wetland ecosystems, such as the Cebolla Creek spring-fed wetland in east-central New Mexico, serve as biodiversity hotspots and directly affect processes such as water cycling and carbon sequestration. However, these systems are highly vulnerable to degradation because of drought, groundwater pumping, and channel incision. The "Zeedyk" approach for restoration employs methods...
