Burmese python environmental DNA data, and environmental covariates, collected from wading bird aggregations and control sites in the Greater Everglades Ecosystem, United States, in 2017

Environmental DNA (eDNA) water samples were collected at 15 tree islands containing wading bird breeding colonies (order Pelecaniformes) and 15 empty control islands in the central Everglades of Florida in spring of 2017 (April through June) and analyzed for the presence of eDNA from invasive Burmese pythons (Python bivittatus). The Burmese python is now established as a breed

Uptake and toxicity of clothianidin to monarch butterflies from milkweed consumption

Recent concern for the adverse effects from neonicotinoid insecticides has centered on risk for insect pollinators in general and bees specifically. However, natural resource managers are also concerned about the risk of neonicotinoids to conservation efforts for the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) and need a tool to estimate risk for wild monarch butterflies exposed to clothianidin.

Carbon-13 values in tree leaves in Florida (2018)

We measured foliar δ13C of Conocarpus erectus collected from Big Pine Key in 2018 as a proxy for ground water salinity.

Mineral content, bulk density, and beryllium-7 activity of wetland soils of the Davis Pond Freshwater Diversion Outfall Area, Louisiana, in 2015

These data provide information regarding beryllium-7 radioisotope activity, bulk density, and percent organic matter for wetland soils in the immediate outfall region of an operational Mississippi River diversion. From them, information relating to short-term mineral sediment mass accumulation rates and sediment retention rates in the receiving basin can be inferred.

Louisiana Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring Program – 2008-2015 habitat change, West Chenier Region

The Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM) program was developed by Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) and is implemented as a component of the System Wide Assessment and Monitoring Program (SWAMP). The program uses both historical data and contemporary data collections to assess and monitor changes in the aerial and subaqueous extent of is

Salt marsh phenology and sexual reproductive characteristics at reference and restored sites in Louisiana, USA (2016)

This dataset provides information on plant sexual reproduction of a clonally-spreading perennial species, Spartina alterniflora. We investigated flowering phenology, potential seed and seedling production, and flower damage in reference and restored sites in southeastern Louisiana. Additional covariates of elevation and soil parameters were used to investigate underlying mechanisms of diffe...

Molecular, morphometric, and distribution information for the freshwater mussel genus Potamilus and newly described species, Potamilus streckersoni sp. nov.

Inaccurate systematics confound our ability to determine evolutionary processes that have led to the diversification of many taxa. The North American freshwater mussel tribe Lampsilini, Ihering, 1901, is one of the more well-studied groups in Unionidae; however, many supraspecific relationships between lampsiline genera remain unresolved. Two genera that have been largely overlooked are

Coastal Uplands: Urbanization and Sea Level Rise Scenarios

Understanding how ecological and cultural resources may change in the future is an important component of conservation planning and for the implementation of long-term environmental monitoring. We modeled six future scenarios of urbanization and sea level rise to investigate their potential effects on the Peninsular Florida Landscape Conservation Cooperative's Priority Resources (PFLCC 2016%2...

Dive data for loggerhead sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico, 2011-2013

This data contains one comma-delimited file with data collected from dive-logging satellite tags placed on loggerhead sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico. Specifically, the file contains the turtle's platform transmitter terminal (PTT; satellite tag) number, the date and time (in UTC) of the dive data collected, the behavioral mode of the turtle on that date, and the dive data v

Microclimate influences mangrove freeze damage: implications for range expansion in response to changing macroclimate

In this data release, we present data from three nights of chilling temperatures in 2015 (18th/19th January 2015; 18th/19th February 2015; 5th/6th March 2015) and from three nights of freezing temperatures in 2017/2018 (6th/7th January 2017; 1nd/2nd January 2018; 16th/17th January 2018). In the paper that accompanies this release, we synthesized hypotheses regar
