Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Louisiana Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring Program – 2021 habitat map, Modern Delta Region Louisiana Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring Program – 2021 habitat map, Modern Delta Region

The Barrier Island Comprehensive Monitoring (BICM) program was developed by Louisiana’s Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) and is implemented as a component of the System Wide Assessment and Monitoring Program (SWAMP). The program uses both historical data and contemporary data collections to assess and monitor changes in the aerial and subaqueous extent of islands...

A Conodont Biostratigraphic and Color Alteration Index Dataset for New England: Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, and parts of eastern New York, USA A Conodont Biostratigraphic and Color Alteration Index Dataset for New England: Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, and parts of eastern New York, USA

For decades, researchers have recognized the functionality of using conodont elements in biostratigraphic investigations. A growing need now exists, however, for a digital dataset of fossil data. The New England conodont dataset is the region's first publicly accessible digital collection of previously published U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conodont paleontological data and Color...

Index Velocity Rating Example Datasets Index Velocity Rating Example Datasets

These data are a compilation of example index velocity ratings used at USGS streamgaging stations. Each directory contains seven comma-delimited files consisting of a read me, the hydrographer developed rating, a table of discharge measurements used to develop the velocity rating, a mixture model analysis, statistically recommended rating, and the variance covariance matrix for both the

This data release presents a national cross-section (XS) database (NXSDB) of bathymetric cross-sections collected during water year (WY) 2022 (October 1, 2021, to September 30, 2022). The WY 2022 NXSDB has been approved by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for publication and supersedes the provisional versions. The data were collected by hydrographers during routine site visits to...

Data release for Remotely Sensed Surface Water Storage Shows Distinct Patterns from SWAT-Simulated Data (ver. 2.0, February 2026) Data release for Remotely Sensed Surface Water Storage Shows Distinct Patterns from SWAT-Simulated Data (ver. 2.0, February 2026)

Understanding and projecting the downstream benefits of terrestrial surface water storage, i.e., volumetric water stored in lakes and wetlands (SWstorage) requires watershed hydrologic models. Use of external datasets to calibrate and validate modeled SWstorage dynamics remains uncommon, particularly across major river basins. Here, we: (1) develop and assess the utility of a novel...

Machine Learning Model: Estimates of Metal Abundance in Global Seafloor Massive Sulfide Deposits Machine Learning Model: Estimates of Metal Abundance in Global Seafloor Massive Sulfide Deposits

A multi-stage ensembled machine learning model was developed to estimate metal abundances in seafloor massive sulfide deposits worldwide. The modeling framework integrates (1) KMeans++ clustering to identify geochemical groupings based on enrichment controls, (2) Random Forest classification to assign geochemical labels to vent fields with incomplete or absent geochemical data, and (3)...

Organic content and carbon dating of soil samples collected from a fen in Big Smoky Valley, Nye County, Nevada Organic content and carbon dating of soil samples collected from a fen in Big Smoky Valley, Nye County, Nevada

This U.S. Geological Survey data release consists of two comma-separated values (CSV) tables containing the results of organic content and radiocarbon dating analyses performed on soil samples collected from a fen in Big Smoky Valley, Nye County, Nevada. Samples were collected from a single soil boring referred to as F1-D on September 11, 2019, using a hand auger. A shapefile of the site...

This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units and input data for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in the Woodford and Barnett Shales of the Permian Basin Province, Texas and New Mexico. The assessment unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The assessment unit is...

Low-flow metrics and explanatory variable data for 107 basins in Massachusetts, 1943-2022 Low-flow metrics and explanatory variable data for 107 basins in Massachusetts, 1943-2022

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, evaluated potential drivers of low streamflows in Massachusetts by use of statistical models with selected low-flow metrics as the dependent variables. Low-flow metrics were computed in six ways: the 2nd and 10th percentile of daily flows during a climate year, these same...

Reconnaissance of imidacloprid in select Virginia streams, 2024–2025 Reconnaissance of imidacloprid in select Virginia streams, 2024–2025

This data release presents concentration results obtained using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method for imidacloprid and other neonicotinoid insecticides from samples collected in 30 urban streams across Virginia between August 2024 and July 2025. ELISA analyses were conducted at the U.S. Geological Survey Strategic Laboratory Science Branch in Boulder, Colorado. The...

Synthesized Domestic Well Database for the Conterminous United States Synthesized Domestic Well Database for the Conterminous United States

Self-supplied domestic water sources play a significant role in the United States' water landscape, serving approximately 13 percent of the nation's population as of 2015 (Dieter and others, 2018). However, these sources present unique challenges for water resource management and research due to the lack of monitoring, withdrawal location, and place-of-use data. To address this data gap...
