Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Data and Supplemental Plots for Trends in Sub-Daily to Daily Rainfall Data in Florida, 1990–2022 Data and Supplemental Plots for Trends in Sub-Daily to Daily Rainfall Data in Florida, 1990–2022

Rainfall data from 23 weather stations in Florida, sourced from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), Northwest Florida Water Management District (NWFWMD), Global Historical Climatology Network-Hourly (GHCNh), and Remote Automatic Weather Stations (RAWS), were used to examine temporal trends over the period 1990–2022 of events with durations of 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, and 24 hours...

Vertical Profiles of Water Quality in the Lower Hudson River, New York, 2023-2024 Vertical Profiles of Water Quality in the Lower Hudson River, New York, 2023-2024

This dataset contains vertical water-quality profiles of the Hudson River collected over two field seasons from May through October 2023 and May through September 2024. Data were collected at 27 equidistant transects along the lower Hudson River from Troy to Riverdale, NY using a stratified random sampling design. Each month, a single sampling location was randomly selected along each...

Cyanotoxins, Chlorophyll-a, and Phytoplankton Assemblage Data for Lake Ontario and Surrounding Tributaries, New York State, April to October 2023 Cyanotoxins, Chlorophyll-a, and Phytoplankton Assemblage Data for Lake Ontario and Surrounding Tributaries, New York State, April to October 2023

This data release contains field measurements and discrete surface water sample results for parameters related to the assessment of harmful algal blooms. Field measurements include fluorescent chlorophyll, phycocyanin fluorescence, and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Discrete water samples were analyzed for extracted chlorophyll-a and pheophytin-a concentrations, total...

Photos and Shapefiles of Erosion/Deposition from the 20 July 2021 Black Hollow Debris Flow Photos and Shapefiles of Erosion/Deposition from the 20 July 2021 Black Hollow Debris Flow

This dataset includes photos taken in the field (Final_photos_for_data_release.zip) and a shapefile (Blackhollow_de.shp stored in Blackhollow_de.zip) to document debris flow activity in the Black Hollow watershed. The Black Hollow watershed was burned by the Cameron Peak Fire (13 August to 2 December 2020) and experienced a debris flow on 20 July 2021. The polygon shapefile in this...

Beach topography and nearshore bathymetry of Humboldt Bay North Spit and South Spit, California Beach topography and nearshore bathymetry of Humboldt Bay North Spit and South Spit, California

Repeat topographic and bathymetric surveys were performed by the U.S. Geological Survey along Humboldt Bay North Spit and South Spit within the Eureka littoral cell in northern California. The surveys were used to characterize changes in coastal morphology and sand volume within an area that extends approximately 12 km north and 8 km south of the Humboldt Bay inlet. Bathymetric and...

Carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions of NBS 19 limestone isotopic reference material and its byproduct calcite having finer grain size, measured at the U.S. Geological Survey Reston Stable Isotope Laboratory (RSIL), 2025 Carbon and oxygen isotopic compositions of NBS 19 limestone isotopic reference material and its byproduct calcite having finer grain size, measured at the U.S. Geological Survey Reston Stable Isotope Laboratory (RSIL), 2025

Approximately 3 to 4 kg of NBS 19 limestone, prepared in 1982 by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), serves as a primary reference for the carbon isotope scales VPDB and VPDB-LSVEC and the oxygen isotope scale VPDB. Its consensus values are +1.95 ‰ for δ¹³C and –2.2 ‰ for δ¹⁸O measurements. After more than three decades of distribution, the number of units labeled “NBS 19” shrunk...

Basin characteristics developed in support of an investigation of regional skew of peak flow for the Upper Mississippi and Souris-Red-Rainy basins, 2024 Basin characteristics developed in support of an investigation of regional skew of peak flow for the Upper Mississippi and Souris-Red-Rainy basins, 2024

Several basin characteristics are computed for gaged watersheds within and near the Upper Mississippi and Souris-Red-Rainy river basins, so that the basin characteristics may be tested for significance in predicting regional skew of peak flow. Basin characteristics were computed using the USGS StreamStats applications for Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota...

Streamflow and Surface-water Presence Data in the Conterminous United States, 1857-2023 Streamflow and Surface-water Presence Data in the Conterminous United States, 1857-2023

This data release includes information on data from 72 streamflow or surface-water presence datasets in the Conterminous United States. It includes location, dataset, parent dataset or publication, site identification (if available), start year, end year, number of years, number of days, frequency of data collection, Strahler stream order, and headwater status.

Ecological Water Quality Benchmarks for the Conterminous United States, Attributed to the NHDPlus version 2.1 Ecological Water Quality Benchmarks for the Conterminous United States, Attributed to the NHDPlus version 2.1

This data release provides a variety of water quality benchmarks, compiled from multiple publications and attributed to the NHDPlus v2.1 hydrography, for the conterminous United States (CONUS) for use in integrated water availability studies for evaluating altered water conditions and potential ecological impacts. To avoid ambiguity in terms, for the purpose of this data release, we use...

GIS data for preliminary geologic map of the Greeley 1 degree x 2 degrees quadrangle, Colorado and Wyoming GIS data for preliminary geologic map of the Greeley 1 degree x 2 degrees quadrangle, Colorado and Wyoming

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides a digital geospatial database for the preliminary geologic map of the Greeley 1 degree x 2 degrees quadrangle, Colorado and Wyoming (Braddock and Cole, 1978). Attribute tables and geospatial features (points, lines and polygons) conform to the Geologic Map Schema (USGS NCGMP, 2020) and represent the geologic map as published in...

2026 Release - North American Breeding Bird Survey Dataset (1966 - 2025) 2026 Release - North American Breeding Bird Survey Dataset (1966 - 2025)

The 1966-2025 North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) dataset contains avian point count data for more than 700 North American bird taxa (species, races, and unidentified species groupings). These data are collected annually during the breeding season, primarily in June, along thousands of randomly established roadside survey routes in the United States and Canada. Routes are roughly...

Metaproteomic Data Associated with Produced Waters collected from the Antrim Shale in Michigan, 2023 Metaproteomic Data Associated with Produced Waters collected from the Antrim Shale in Michigan, 2023

This data release contains metaproteomics data from subsurface methanogenic communities in an Antrim Shale (Michigan basin, MI) natural gas well. The subsurface microbial communities have interacted with produced waters that were exposed to ambient surficial conditions prior to injection of the produced waters into the well. These data are used in a related publication to understand...
