Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Pesticide Concentrations in American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) Tadpoles Collected from Ponds and Reservoirs near Mead, Nebraska Pesticide Concentrations in American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) Tadpoles Collected from Ponds and Reservoirs near Mead, Nebraska

To evaluate the potential uptake and accumulation of pesticides in amphibians, American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) tadpoles were collected from surface water sites (four ponds and one reservoir) in 2021 near Mead, Nebraska. Sites were located in the landscape surrounding the AltEn ethanol plant, a plant which had previously received pesticide treated (coated) seeds. Tadpoles were...

Fish, amphibian, and conductance data from Panacea Unit, St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, FL, 2009-2016 Fish, amphibian, and conductance data from Panacea Unit, St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, FL, 2009-2016

These data are meant to support a publication "Disentangling direct and indirect effects of extreme events on coastal wetland communities" in the Journal of Animal Ecology. This dataset contains both amphibian and fish observations based on our use of plastic minnow traps. Additionally we present (specific) conductance values observed during our trapping periods.

Zebra anthrax carcass site pathogen and soil data from Namibia, 2010-2021 Zebra anthrax carcass site pathogen and soil data from Namibia, 2010-2021

Datasets collected from monitored zebra anthrax carcass sites in Etosha National Park, Namibia, 2010-2021. One data file describes the anthrax mortality, soil characterization of the carcass sites and details on the types and timing of different sampling efforts at these sites. The other data file is counts of Bacillus anthracis spores in surface soils collected annually at these carcass...

Simulated annual area burned for eleven extensively forested ecoregions in the western United States for 1980 - 2099 Simulated annual area burned for eleven extensively forested ecoregions in the western United States for 1980 - 2099

This data release provides output produced by a statistical, aridity threshold fire model for 11 extensively forested ecoregions in the western United States. We identified thresholds in fire-season climate water deficit (FSCWD) that distinguish years with limited, moderate, and extensive area burned for each ecoregion. We developed a new area burned model using these relationships and...

Channel Characteristics, benthic algae, and water quality model data for selected sites in the upper White River Basin, Colorado, 2018-21 Channel Characteristics, benthic algae, and water quality model data for selected sites in the upper White River Basin, Colorado, 2018-21

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides benthic algae and stream channel characteristics data collected from 20 water-quality sites in the Upper White River Basin, Colorado., during 2018-2021. Also included are input and output data from streamflow and water-quality regression models used to characterize streamflow and water-quality conditions at 3 sites in the Upper...

Electron microprobe analyses of sphalerite from Central and East Tennessee mining districts, the Red Dog mining district (AK), and the Metaline mining district (WA) Electron microprobe analyses of sphalerite from Central and East Tennessee mining districts, the Red Dog mining district (AK), and the Metaline mining district (WA)

Electron microprobe analyses of sphalerite (ZnS) were collected on samples from current or past mining operations in the USA with a specific focus on germanium (Ge), a byproduct critical mineral recovered from sphalerite. Data and methods reported are part of a research study published in the 'Related External Resources' section below.

Molecular-scale speciation of germanium and copper within sphalerite from Central Tennessee mining district (TN), Red Dog mining district (AK), and Metaline mining district (WA) Molecular-scale speciation of germanium and copper within sphalerite from Central Tennessee mining district (TN), Red Dog mining district (AK), and Metaline mining district (WA)

Oxidation state and bonding environment of Ge and Cu in ZnS and Zn mineral concentrates from a variety of sources [Central Tennessee mining district (TN), Metaline mining district, (WA), and Red Dog mine (AK)] were determined by linear combination fits from x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) analysis. Sphalerites from the East Tennessee mining district contained Ge in concentrations...

Trace element composition and molecular-scale speciation characterization of sphalerite from Central and East Tennessee mining districts, Red Dog mining district (AK), and Metaline mining district (WA) Trace element composition and molecular-scale speciation characterization of sphalerite from Central and East Tennessee mining districts, Red Dog mining district (AK), and Metaline mining district (WA)

Germanium (Ge) is an element deemed critical globally, and used in electronics, communication, and defense applications. The supply of Ge is limited and as demand for it increases, its criticality increases. Germanium is exclusively recovered as a byproduct of either coal mining or zinc (Zn) mining, and the main mineral hosting Ge in Zn deposits is sphalerite (ZnS). However, the...

Sopori Wash sub-basin gravity data, Pima and Santa Cruz Counties, Arizona Sopori Wash sub-basin gravity data, Pima and Santa Cruz Counties, Arizona

This data release contains new Earths gravity data from the Sopori Wash sub-basin in Pima and Santa Cruz Counties, Arizona. Data were acquired in January and March of 2017.

(LAC-78) Geologic map of the Theophilus quadrangle of the moon (LAC-78) Geologic map of the Theophilus quadrangle of the moon

The surface of the moon is heterogeneous. The differences from area to area of characteristic topographic forms and of physical properties such as albedo (reflectivity under full-Moon illumination) indicate that the materials underlying the surface vary from one area to another and that different processes have operated in the development of the surface. In lunar geologic mapping, areas...

(RLC-15) Geologic map of the Alphonsus GA region of the moon (RLC-15) Geologic map of the Alphonsus GA region of the moon

This map is one of a series prepared from photographs transmitted by Ranger IX (Jet Propulsion Lab, 1966, pls A56-58, B70-82). It depicts the geology of some 724 sq km in the northeast part of the floor of Alphonsus (Diameter about 115 km), a typical flat-floored old terra crater or basin with a subdued rim. Similar basins abound in the south central terrae of the visable hemisphere and...

(RLC-9) Geologic map of the Sabine DM region of the moon (RLC-9) Geologic map of the Sabine DM region of the moon

This 1:50,000 scale geolgic map is one of a series constructed at various scales from photographs trasmitted by the Ranger VII, VIII and IX spacecraft. The center of the map area is about 23 km southwest of the Ranger VIII (US Air Force Aeronautical Chart and Information Center Chart AIC 60C, Arago). In general, geologic maps of the moon portray similarities and differences in the...
