Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Data Examining the Effects of Fire Timing and Snow Depth on Plant Emergence Phenology Growth and Flowering in a Restored Tallgrass Prairie in Wisconsin from 2016–2023 Data Examining the Effects of Fire Timing and Snow Depth on Plant Emergence Phenology Growth and Flowering in a Restored Tallgrass Prairie in Wisconsin from 2016–2023

This dataset includes data from a study testing the interacting effects of disturbance regime and winter snow depth on plant emergence, growth, and reproductive effort in a restored tallgrass prairie. The “Treatments.csv” file includes details of the experimental design. The design includes two snow manipulation treatments (ambient or reduced snow) nested within one of three disturbance...

Data Release - Geologic Map geodatabase of the valley corridor of the 59-mile reach of the Missouri National Recreational River, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa: Gavins Point Dam to North Sioux City Data Release - Geologic Map geodatabase of the valley corridor of the 59-mile reach of the Missouri National Recreational River, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa: Gavins Point Dam to North Sioux City

This geologic map area of 5,430 km2 spans a reach of the lower Missouri River valley and adjoining uplands for about 100 kilometers east of Gavins Point Dam, the easternmost mainstem dam on the Missouri River. Understanding the surficial geologic history of the valley is relevant to natural resource management of the Missouri National Recreational River and is foundational to improved

Fuels Data for the 2000 Highland Creek Fire and 2017 Legion Lake Fire in Blacks Hills, SD, Collected in 2025 Fuels Data for the 2000 Highland Creek Fire and 2017 Legion Lake Fire in Blacks Hills, SD, Collected in 2025

Eleven pre-established plots within the 2000 Highland Creek Fire perimeter were revisited in 2025 with the purpose of characterizing long-term vegetation recovery as well as present-day fuel loads and forest structure. These research plots were originally established in Wind Cave National Park to assess burn severity using the Composite Burn Index. Additionally, 28 plots established in...

Geochemical and hydrologic data supporting assessment of a low-temperature geothermal system in Steamboat Springs, Colorado Geochemical and hydrologic data supporting assessment of a low-temperature geothermal system in Steamboat Springs, Colorado

Geothermal springs may be connected to both shallow and deep groundwater sources, and identification of variable spring sources may assist with resource management of geothermal systems. Numerous geothermal springs exist near the Yampa River in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and local water and land management agencies could benefit from information on the sources of these springs. This...

Input and Output files from the Zonebudget program used with MODFLOW models to compute regional groundwater budgets for the Virginia Coastal Plain aquifer system Input and Output files from the Zonebudget program used with MODFLOW models to compute regional groundwater budgets for the Virginia Coastal Plain aquifer system

This data release contains results from annual water budgets computed for two groundwater-flow models of the Virginia Coastal Plain published by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, 2020, 2024a and 2024b). Both models simulated historical withdrawals from approximately 1900 to 2023 and projected withdrawal conditions to 2073...

Geochemical data for rock, sediment, soil, and mineral samples, United States and territories, 1962 to 2023 Geochemical data for rock, sediment, soil, and mineral samples, United States and territories, 1962 to 2023

The data set contains geochemical data for 1,524,014 rock, sediment, soil, and mineral samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey within US state, territory or Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ) boundaries, and analyzed from 1962 through 2023 either in the analytical laboratories of the Geologic Discipline of the USGS or by contract with commercial analytical laboratories. These data...
