Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Mid-Holocene-to-present Modeled (ca., 7,000 to 100 cal. BP) and Reconstructed (ca., 5,900 to 5,436 cal. BP) Temperature for the High-Elevations of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem: Derived from a Transient Climate Model and Whitebark Pine Tree-rings Mid-Holocene-to-present Modeled (ca., 7,000 to 100 cal. BP) and Reconstructed (ca., 5,900 to 5,436 cal. BP) Temperature for the High-Elevations of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem: Derived from a Transient Climate Model and Whitebark Pine Tree-rings

In the Rocky Mountains of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (United States), recent melting at a high-elevation (3,091 m asl) ice patch exposed a mature stand of whitebark pine (Pinus albicaulis) trees located ~180 m above modern treeline dating to the mid-Holocene (c. 5,900-5,436 cal y BP +- 51 y). From this subfossil wood record, we contextualize the recent magnitude of warming...

Geospatial datasets and hydraulic model for flood-inundation maps for the Cuyahoga River in and near the City of Independence, Ohio Geospatial datasets and hydraulic model for flood-inundation maps for the Cuyahoga River in and near the City of Independence, Ohio

Digital flood-inundation maps for a 9.9-mile reach of the Cuyahoga River near Independence, Ohio, were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District Board of Trustees. Flood profiles were computed for the stream reach by means of a one-dimensional step-backwater model. The model was calibrated to the current (rating number 42)...

Geospatial data sets and hydraulic models for the Cuyahoga River near Jaite, Ohio Geospatial data sets and hydraulic models for the Cuyahoga River near Jaite, Ohio

Digital flood-inundation maps for a nearly 6-mile reach of the Cuyahoga River at Jaite, Ohio, were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District Board of Commissioners. The flood-inundation maps, which can be accessed through the USGS Flood Inundation Mapping (FIM) Program website at https://www.usgs.gov/mission-areas/water...

SNP Genotypes for Chylismia brevipes Sampled in the Mojave Desert, 2016-2019 SNP Genotypes for Chylismia brevipes Sampled in the Mojave Desert, 2016-2019

These data show multilocus genotypes for Chylismia brevipes sampled from natural populations throughout the Mojave Desert of California, Nevada, and Arizona from 2016 to 2019. The data release contains two variant call format (.vcf) files with Single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) from single-end Restriction-site associated DNA sequencing (RADSeq), which differ in the restriction enzyme...

Desert Bighorn Sheep Locations and Associated Home Range Areas across Southern Nevada Desert Bighorn Sheep Locations and Associated Home Range Areas across Southern Nevada

Areas of desert bighorn sheep home ranges from southern Nevada. Home ranges are attributed with average slope, average vector ruggedness measure (VRM), median distance to water, average NDVI, NDVI coefficient of variation, and Palmer's drought severity index (PDSI).

Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances and polychlorinated biphenyls in influent, effluent, and biosolids samples collected from municipal wastewater treatment plants of the Patapsco and Potomac watersheds, 2021-2023 Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances and polychlorinated biphenyls in influent, effluent, and biosolids samples collected from municipal wastewater treatment plants of the Patapsco and Potomac watersheds, 2021-2023

This metadata record consists of 3 tables containing per-and-poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) concentration data of wastewater and biosolid samples from wastewater treatment plants within the Patapsco and Potomac watersheds. The PCB concentration data was used to assess the occurrence and fate of PCB in wastewater treatment plants within the Patapsco...

Hurricane Maria's Most Mobile (MMM) landslides in nine study areas in the Lares, Naranjito and Utuado Municipalities, Puerto Rico Hurricane Maria's Most Mobile (MMM) landslides in nine study areas in the Lares, Naranjito and Utuado Municipalities, Puerto Rico

In 2017, Hurricane Maria triggered widespread landsliding in Puerto Rico. Published landslide inventories from Hurricane Maria (Bessette-Kirton and others, 2019; Baxstrom and others, 2021a, 2021b; Einbund and others, 2021a, 2021b) provided detailed mapping, including 2919 locations of headscarp points, travel distance lines, source areas, and landslide-affected areas (combined source and...

Behavioral responses to different sensory stimuli in larval Grass Carp Ctenopharyngodon idella Behavioral responses to different sensory stimuli in larval Grass Carp Ctenopharyngodon idella

Sensory input and systems are critical for organisms to respond to their environment, allowing movement to suitable habitat and potential escape from predators. While many stages of grass carp ontogeny have been described, neurosensory development remains unclear. Using behavioral tests, we looked at phonotaxis and chemotaxis from initial gas bladder inflation to the development of the...

Physical and Imagery-Based Morphological Measures of Pacific Walruses in Human Care Physical and Imagery-Based Morphological Measures of Pacific Walruses in Human Care

This dataset contains morphological measures of 21 Pacific walruses in human care in the United States, Belgium, and Germany measured directly and via an aerially mounted camera in 2022 and 2023. Six individuals were measured twice: once at their typical annual lowest body mass and once at their typical annual maximum body mass. The remaining 15 individuals were measured on one occasion...

Water chemistry, stable isotopes, and trace metals in sediment, water and biota in Torch Lake and Gratiot Lake, Keweenaw Peninsula, Michigan, USA, July and October 2021 Water chemistry, stable isotopes, and trace metals in sediment, water and biota in Torch Lake and Gratiot Lake, Keweenaw Peninsula, Michigan, USA, July and October 2021

This data release includes sampling location data, laboratory processed surface water chemistry data (anions, cations, total nitrogen, dissolved organic carbon, deuterium, trace metals), laboratory processed pore water chemistry data (anions, cations, total nitrogen, dissolved organic carbon, trace metals), laboratory process sediment data (trace metals), and whole-body trace metal...

Contaminants measured in multiple environmental media in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area NV/AZ, USA in 2010 Contaminants measured in multiple environmental media in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area NV/AZ, USA in 2010

Concentrations of a wide variety of environmental organic contaminants were measured in surface waters of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area (Nevada and Arizona) in 2010 to provide a measure of exposure to resident fish species. These contaminants were sampled using the semipermeable membrane device (SPMD) and the polar organic chemical integrative sampler (POCIS) which allow for the

Measurements of arsenic in Sonora mud turtles and their food web at Montezuma Well, Arizona 2010-2015 Measurements of arsenic in Sonora mud turtles and their food web at Montezuma Well, Arizona 2010-2015

These data were compiled to better understand the geogenic arsenic cycle in a unique natural wetland in central Arizona. The objective of our study was to determine the role of Sonora mud turtles in the arsenic cycle of a simple food web. These data represent the first study to do so even though a previous studies left out turtles as the top predator and consumer. The data were collected...
