Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Sea Otter Aerial Survey Data from lower Cook Inlet and the outer Kenai Penisula, Alaska, 2002 Sea Otter Aerial Survey Data from lower Cook Inlet and the outer Kenai Penisula, Alaska, 2002
This dataset consists of three tables related to abundance and distribution of northern sea otters (Enhydra lutris kenyoni) in lower Cook Inlet and the outer Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, based on data collected during a series of aerial surveys from May-Aug 2002. The dataset consists of: (1) sea otter counts along strip transects, (2) sea otter counts in Intensive Search Unit (ISU) within...
Data Release for Luminescence: Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Florida estuarine sediment cores Data Release for Luminescence: Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Florida estuarine sediment cores
As part of the Coastal Sediment Availability and Flux and Defense Advanced Research Protection Agency (DARPA) Reefense projects, scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (SPCMSC) conducted a nearshore geophysical survey to map and characterize the stratigraphy of back-barrier bays near Panama City, Florida (FL) in June 2022...

Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the Ranegras Plain Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Crops were verified in situ twice in 2023, first on May 10th and again on Sep 28th; based on digitized field boundaries. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agriculture Imagery Program County Mosaic 2023 imagery for Arizona and supplemented with...
Annual Nitrogen Load Estimates from Six Nonpoint Sources on Long Island, New York, from 1900 to 2019 Annual Nitrogen Load Estimates from Six Nonpoint Sources on Long Island, New York, from 1900 to 2019
This data release contains annual estimates of nitrogen load from six non-point sources across Long Island, New York, over a 120-year period (1900-2019). Estimated loads are gridded at a 500 x 500-foot square resolution and represent the total mass of nitrogen (N), in kilograms (kg), from six major sources—septic systems (SS), residential fertilizer use (RF), agriculture crop fertilizer...

Evaluation of preservation techniques for trace metals and major cations for surface waters collected from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Quality Network Sites Evaluation of preservation techniques for trace metals and major cations for surface waters collected from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Quality Network Sites
The USGS National Field Manual (NFM) states "A representative sample is one that typifies in time and space that part of the aqueous system to be studied" and "obtaining representative samples is of primary importance for a relevant description of the environment." The NFM contains detailed chapters on the best practices for representative and contamination free sampling of major and...
Geochemistry of ferromanganese crusts, nodules, and hydrothermally altered rocks from the Arctic Ocean Geochemistry of ferromanganese crusts, nodules, and hydrothermally altered rocks from the Arctic Ocean
Ferromanganese crusts, nodules, and hydrothermally altered rocks were collected via dredge within the Amerasia Basin in the Arctic Ocean during USCGC icebreaker Healy cruises HLY0805, HLY0905, and HLY1202 in 2008, 2009, and 2012 respectively. Dredged samples were donated and sent to USGS for subsampling and major and trace element geochemical analyses. Major and trace element data as...
Invasive carp harvest data and surveys of commercial fishers in support of stock assessment and abundance models, Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, 2009-2021 Invasive carp harvest data and surveys of commercial fishers in support of stock assessment and abundance models, Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, 2009-2021
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency conducted observations onboard commercial fishing vessels. During these observations total lengths were collected from a subset of that capture which we have used to develop a length-based stock assessment of invasive carp. The first dataset represent harvest from the invasive carp harvest...
Effects of estrogens and atrazine on functional immune responses of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) Effects of estrogens and atrazine on functional immune responses of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides)
Disease outbreaks, skin lesions, fish kill events, and reproductive abnormalities have been observed in wild populations of bass in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Occurrence of synthetic and natural hormones from wastewater treatment plants and livestock operations, pesticides from agricultural lands, and phytoestrogens from cover crops have been implicated as potential causes of these...
Data for quality-control equipment blanks, field blanks, and field replicates for baseline water quality in watersheds within the shale play of eastern Ohio, 2021–23 Data for quality-control equipment blanks, field blanks, and field replicates for baseline water quality in watersheds within the shale play of eastern Ohio, 2021–23
In 2021–23, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Ohio Division of Natural Resources, led a study to characterize baseline water quality (2021–23) in eastern Ohio, as they relate to hydraulic fracturing and (or) other oil and gas extraction-related activities. Water-quality data were collected eight times at each of eight sampling sites during a variety of flow...
