Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

National Assessment of Hurricane-Induced Coastal Erosion Hazards National Assessment of Hurricane-Induced Coastal Erosion Hazards
These datasets contain information on the probabilities of hurricane-induced erosion (collision, inundation, and overwash) for each 1-km section of the United States sandy open-ocean coastline for category 1-5 hurricanes. The analysis is based on a storm-impact scaling model (Sallenger, 2000; https://www.jstor.org/stable/4300099) that uses observations of beach morphology combined with
Model of groundwater flow, gas migration, and reactive transport in the Virgin River Basin, SW Utah Model of groundwater flow, gas migration, and reactive transport in the Virgin River Basin, SW Utah
To better understand the possible risks posed to shallow groundwater resources by geologic carbon sequestration (GCS), a multi-scale numerical modeling approach was invoked using the TOUGHREACT code from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The code solves coupled equations representing conservation of mass and energy on a finite difference grid to simulate multiphase, multicomponent...
Temperature, relative humidity and cloud immersion data for Luquillo Mountains, eastern Puerto Rico, 2014-2019 Temperature, relative humidity and cloud immersion data for Luquillo Mountains, eastern Puerto Rico, 2014-2019
Supplementary data for studies conducted in the Luquillo Experimental Forest (LEF), eastern Puerto Rico include measurements of temperature, relative humidity and cloud immersion at 30-minute resolution. Temperature and relative humidity were measured at five sites; two primary sites have records from March 2014 to June 2019; other sites have shorter records within that period. From...
Basin Characteristic Layers for the Upper Colorado & Gunnison Rivers Pilot Project for StreamStats 2020 Basin Characteristic Layers for the Upper Colorado & Gunnison Rivers Pilot Project for StreamStats 2020
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) calculated multiple basin characteristics as part of preparing the Upper Colorado & Gunnison Rivers Pilot StreamStats application. These datasets are raster representations of various environmental, geological, and land use attributes within the Upper Colorado & Gunnison Rivers study area (also known as the Next-Generation Water Observing System, or...
SEAWAT code used to couple MODFLOW and MT3DMS models, and supplemental data used to simulate groundwater flow and tritium transport from the HANDLEY underground nuclear test, Pahute Mesa, southern Nevada SEAWAT code used to couple MODFLOW and MT3DMS models, and supplemental data used to simulate groundwater flow and tritium transport from the HANDLEY underground nuclear test, Pahute Mesa, southern Nevada
Three-dimensional numerical models were used to determine the permeable pathways between the HANDLEY underground nuclear test and downgradient boreholes ER-20-12 and PM-3, Pahute Mesa, southern Nevada. The SEAWAT code was used to couple MODFLOW and MT3DMS models, where the coupled model simulated groundwater-flow and tritium migration from the HANDLEY test for 50 years, from the date of...
Long-term annual aeolian dust deposition data from seven locations in southeastern Utah Long-term annual aeolian dust deposition data from seven locations in southeastern Utah
These data are annual aeolian dust deposition calculations from vertical deposition at seven locations near the vicinity of Moab, Utah covering the period from 1999 to 2020. Data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center (Denver, Colorado) and Southwest Biological Science Center (Moab, Utah) to "monitor sediment characteristics at...
Data to Incorporate Water Quality Analysis into Navigation Assessments as Demonstrated in the Mississippi River Basin Data to Incorporate Water Quality Analysis into Navigation Assessments as Demonstrated in the Mississippi River Basin
This data release includes estimates of annual and monthly mean concentrations and fluxes for nitrate plus nitrite, orthophosphate and suspended sediment for nine sites in the Mississippi River Basin (MRB) produced using the Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge, and Season (WRTDS) model (Hirsch and De Cicco, 2015). It also includes a model archive (R scripts and readMe file) used to...
Data used to develop a probabilistic assessment of tephra-fall hazards at Hanford, Washington Data used to develop a probabilistic assessment of tephra-fall hazards at Hanford, Washington
Data in this data release contain Model input and output for simulations used to estimate the amount of tephra that could fall on the Hanford nuclear waste repository. The results of that study were written up in the report: Mastin, L.G., Van Eaton, A.E., and Schwaiger, H.F., 2020 A Probabilistic Assessment of Tephra-Fall Hazards at Hanford, Washington, from a Future Eruption of Mount St...
Observations and model simulations of umbrella-cloud growth during eruptions of Mount Pinatubo (Philippines, June 15, 1991), Kelud Volcano (Indonesia, February 14, 2014), and Calbuco Volcano (Chile, April 22-23, 2015) Observations and model simulations of umbrella-cloud growth during eruptions of Mount Pinatubo (Philippines, June 15, 1991), Kelud Volcano (Indonesia, February 14, 2014), and Calbuco Volcano (Chile, April 22-23, 2015)
Model output to accompany the paper "Comparing Simulations of Umbrella-Cloud Growth and Ash Transport with Observations from Pinatubo, Kelud, and Calbuco Volcanoes", by L.G. Mastin and Alexa Van Eaton, published by the journal Atmosphere. The data release includes model input and output used to generate figures in the paper. Impounded and tidal wetland plant diversity and composition across spatial scales, San Francisco Bay-Delta, California, USA (2016-2018) Impounded and tidal wetland plant diversity and composition across spatial scales, San Francisco Bay-Delta, California, USA (2016-2018)
These datasets provide information on plant alpha, beta, and gamma diversity, and plant species abundance at several spatial scales for tidal wetlands along a salinity gradient in the San Francisco Bay-Delta and an impounded brackish wetland complex in Suisun Marsh, California. Files include diversity metrics calculated at the patch, site, and region scales, average percent cover of...
Stage-Volume-Area Table for Malheur Lake, Oregon, 2021 Stage-Volume-Area Table for Malheur Lake, Oregon, 2021
Malheur Lake is a vast, shallow lake in eastern Oregon. The lake is within the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge and serves as an important stop and breeding ground along the Pacific flyway for migratory ducks and geese. The bottom of the lake is fairly uniform and there are very few topographic features. A small vertical increase in lake stage may result in a large change in area or...
2015 calendar-year county-level estimates of actual evapotranspiration for the conterminous United States and Hawaii 2015 calendar-year county-level estimates of actual evapotranspiration for the conterminous United States and Hawaii
Actual evapotranspiration (ETa) values estimated for specified areas including 1) total county areas; 2) potentially irrigated areas within each county; and 3) mapped extents of irrigated lands within each county provided by some states. These ETa estimates were provided to the USGS National Water Use Science Project by the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center...
