Richard Michael Buzard, Ph.D.
Richard studies flood hazards in Alaska's coastal communities. This includes overland flood modeling, installing flood signage in communities, stakeholder engagement, and supporting Alaska's database of flood events and datums.
Richard has studied Alaska's coastal hazards since 2015 as a student, a geologist with the State of Alaska, and a researcher for USGS. His work often involves creating baseline data to begin analyzing hazards. This includes GPS surveys, uncrewed aerial vehicle surveys, shoreline delineation, and quantifying community observations. Richard has authored shoreline change and erosion exposure assessments in western and northern Alaska, as well as flood exposure assessments.
