Data

Hydrologic data collection, processing, analysis, dissemination, and archiving are major parts of the MD-DE-DC Water Science Center program. Much of the data are available on a near-real-time basis by satellite telemetry.

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols.

Preliminary streamflow percentile predictions for ungaged areas of the Colorado River Basin, 1981-2020 Preliminary streamflow percentile predictions for ungaged areas of the Colorado River Basin, 1981-2020

This dataset consists of daily streamflow percentiles for 1981-10-01 to 2020-03-31 relevant to streamflow drought defined using two approaches: Percentiles accounting for flow seasonality (variable threshold percentiles) and those based on the full record of data for each site regardless of season (fixed threshold percentiles). Because of the size of this dataset (99,530,836 rows), it...

Thermoelectric-power condenser duty estimates by month and cooling type for use to calculate water use by power plant for the 2008-2020 reanalysis period for the conterminous United States Thermoelectric-power condenser duty estimates by month and cooling type for use to calculate water use by power plant for the 2008-2020 reanalysis period for the conterminous United States

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed models to estimate the amount of water that is withdrawn and consumed by thermoelectric power plants (Diehl and others, 2013; Diehl and Harris, 2014; Harris and Diehl, 2019). The thermoelectric water use models are based on linked heat-and-water budgets that are constrained by power plant generation and cooling system technologies, the amount...

Digital elevation model and derivative datasets to support the integration of stormwater drainage into the Washington, D.C. Stormwater StreamStats application (ver. 2.0, February 2026) Digital elevation model and derivative datasets to support the integration of stormwater drainage into the Washington, D.C. Stormwater StreamStats application (ver. 2.0, February 2026)

This dataset was created to support the Washington D.C. StreamStats project funded by the Washington D.C. Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE). The dataset contains digital elevation model (DEM), flow direction and catchment layers that were conditioned using Washingtons D.C.’s stormwater network layer. The data are hosted online as a component of the USGS StreamStats web...

Basin characteristics data for the Washington, D.C. StreamStats application Basin characteristics data for the Washington, D.C. StreamStats application

This data was created to support the Washington D.C. StreamStats project funded by the Washington D.C. Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE). The data release contains high-resolution (1-meter) land cover data layers for Washington D.C. and its tributaries that represent canopy cover, canopy cover with building and road coverage removed (“pervious canopy”), impervious cover, slope...

Channel incision characteristics in Clarksburg, MD Channel incision characteristics in Clarksburg, MD

This dataset describes field-measured qualitative stream channel characteristics indicative of incision and remotely-measured predictions of channel incision from lidar in three headwater streams in the Piedmont physiographic region of Maryland. The files within the field-measured channel incision folder include 1) a point file of original survey locations with a description of channel

Questions and responses to USGS-wide poll on quality assurance practices for timeseries data, 2021 Questions and responses to USGS-wide poll on quality assurance practices for timeseries data, 2021

This data record contains questions and responses to a USGS-wide survey conducted to identify issues and needs associated with quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of USGS timeseries data streams. This research was funded by the USGS Community for Data Integration as part of a project titled “From reactive- to condition-based maintenance: Artificial intelligence for anomaly...

Microbial Populations in PFHxSAm (perfluorohexane sulfonamido propyl amine) Biodegradation Microcosms Microbial Populations in PFHxSAm (perfluorohexane sulfonamido propyl amine) Biodegradation Microcosms

Water resources around the world are contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) due to releases from point sources on military installations, fire training centers, and chemical manufacturing sites. Non-point sources have also been identified including wastewater effluent, landfills, and biosolids application. PFAS are a major concern to myriad stakeholders as some are...

Time Series of Aerial Photogrammetry Data and Products of the Delaware Atlantic Coast Time Series of Aerial Photogrammetry Data and Products of the Delaware Atlantic Coast

This data release presents a time series of aerial imagery and derived structure-from-motion (SfM) products collected along the Delaware Atlantic coast with a piloted fixed-wing aircraft. U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) researchers use the aerial imagery and products to assess topographic and landscape change, evaluate nesting habitats for wildlife, and for understanding coastal...
