Welcome Aboard!
Congratulations on your position with the U.S. Geological Survey. We are a diverse and inclusive organization, comprised of hundreds of individuals who bring their unique talents, skills, and experiences to the job.
Our USGS Orientation Program is designed to empower our new employees with the information and resources they need to thrive in their first year with our organization. As soon as new employees join the USGS, they are provided with a carefully crafted orientation process that includes essential materials and tools to facilitate their orientation journey. Each supervisor is given the opportunity to provide their new employee with an Orientation Guide who serves as their compass throughout the year, helping them navigate the various components of the Orientation Program. This approach ensures that our new employees receive personalized support and direction, helping them acclimate to our culture, public service, and all the resources and information that are provided to them.
Our USGS Orientation Information and Resource Library is an invaluable asset for our new employees, serving as a comprehensive repository of essential information and resources. The cornerstone of the library is the Navigator Electronic Handbook, a digital compass that helps them navigate our complex organization’s culture and the uniqueness of public service. This dynamic handbook is always up to date and is designed to be easily accessible and provide essential information that equips new employees with the knowledge they need to integrate seamlessly into the USGS from day one. Another essential core component is the Orientation Guide. The Guide not only introduces them to the organization and local culture but also imparts the values and responsibilities associated with being a public servant. Orientation Guides foster a sense of camaraderie and ensure a smooth transition into their roles, all while upholding the USGS mission, values, and commitment to public service. Complementing this, we offer an array of dynamic components including the Live Webinar Series that offers real-time engagement with experts and a platform for questions and discussions. The Recorded Webinar Library offers on-demand access to valuable topics for those who miss the live webinars or need to revisit key topics. Our USGS Orientation external webpage is a central hub for resources and information, while the HR Benefits Information webinar equips new employees with the insights, they need to make informed decisions about their benefits. The USGS Orientation Information and Resource Library empowers our new employees to embark on their journey with confidence and clarity.
