Data release for Greater Yellowstone Climate Assessment (vol 1), Chapter 7. Future Water Projections for the GYA Data release for Greater Yellowstone Climate Assessment (vol 1), Chapter 7. Future Water Projections for the GYA
We apply a monthly water-balance model (MWBM) to simulate components of the water balance for the period 1950-2099 under RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 for the Greater Yellowstone Climate Assessment. We use the statistically downscaled MACAv2-METDATA temperature and precipitation data from 20 GCMs from the Climate Model Intercomparison Program Phase 5 (CMIP5) as input to the water balance model. The
WildAgg: an R package to estimate and visualize wildlife aggregation data WildAgg: an R package to estimate and visualize wildlife aggregation data
This package is designed to estimate, summarize, and visualize wildlife aggregation metrics using location information like GPS collar data. The motivation for the development of this package began with two research efforts studying the aggregation and density of elk on the National Elk Refuge, Wyoming (Janousek et al.2021; and Graves et al. 2021). The primary goal of the WildAgg package...
Bighorn Sheep Risk of Contact Tool Bighorn Sheep Risk of Contact Tool
The Risk of Contact Tool (RoCT) is an R-based implementation of the Risk of Contact model described in O'Brien et al. (2014). It uses a variety of spatial inputs (including telemetry point data, a core herd home range (CHHR) polygon, a habitat raster model, and a set of active domestic sheep allotments) together with estimates of bighorn sheep foray behavior to estimate the probability...
Glaciers of Glacier National Park Repeat Photography Collection Glaciers of Glacier National Park Repeat Photography Collection
The “Glaciers of Glacier National Park Repeat Photography Collection” is a compilation of photographs documenting the retreat of glaciers in Glacier National Park, Montana, U.S.A. (GNP) through repeat photography. The collection is comprised of 58 image pairs, resulting from twenty-two years of U.S.Geological Survey (USGS) field excursions (1997-2019) for the purpose of photographically
T. bryosalmonae detection in fish and water, DNA sequence, and simple sequence repeat data collected in the Inter-Mountain West from 2011 to 2019 T. bryosalmonae detection in fish and water, DNA sequence, and simple sequence repeat data collected in the Inter-Mountain West from 2011 to 2019
This data release contains molecular diagnostic results and molecular detection of the myxozoan parasite Tetracapsuloides byrosalmonae in fish tissue and environmental DNA samples collected from the inter-mountain West, USA.
Western bumble bee predicted occupancy and detection probability rasters for the western continental United States from 1998 to 2018 Western bumble bee predicted occupancy and detection probability rasters for the western continental United States from 1998 to 2018
These data represent occupancy estimates for western bumble bee across the western continental United States and the spatial variation in detection probabilities that occur during bumble bee surveys. This product contains five raster layers (appearing as separate bands in a multi-band raster). The first two bands represent the predicted occupancy of western bumble bee in 1998 and 2018...
Hoary Marmot Abundance in North Cascades National Park 2007-2008 and 2016-2017 Hoary Marmot Abundance in North Cascades National Park 2007-2008 and 2016-2017
USGS and NPS biologists used distance sampling to estimate abundance of hoary marmots (Marmota caligata) in North Cascades National Park, Washington, USA during 2007-2008 and 2016-2017. Biologists resurveyed hoary marmots in 2016 and 2017 at 78 point-count stations across 19 sites surveyed by NPS in 2007-2008. Data include marmot detection distances and survey conditions used to estimate
Mark-recapture data for a boreal toad metapopulation at the Lost Trail National Wildlife Refuge, Montana (2003-2018) Mark-recapture data for a boreal toad metapopulation at the Lost Trail National Wildlife Refuge, Montana (2003-2018)
From 2003-2018, USGS researchers and collaborators conducted mark-recapture studies of the boreal toad at the Lost Trail National Wildlife Refuge in northwestern Montana, USA. The datasets included here contain information on individual toad capture history, body size, and disease status. These data were collected annually over the 16-year period at up to 11 breeding sites per year on...
Environmental DNA surveillance data for USGS streamgage sampling in the Columbia River Basin, 2018 Environmental DNA surveillance data for USGS streamgage sampling in the Columbia River Basin, 2018
Environmental DNA quantitative PCR results for water samples collected in 2018 at USGS streamgages downstream of Columbia River Basin reservoirs that are considered to have moderate to high suitability for invasive dreissenid mussels. Water samples were tested for DNA of dreissenid mussels, kokanee salmon, and yellow perch. This is version 1.1 of this data release. The Kokanee_Perch_eDNA...
Environmental DNA robotic and manual sampling data, Yellowstone and Snake Rivers, 2017-2019 Environmental DNA robotic and manual sampling data, Yellowstone and Snake Rivers, 2017-2019
Environmental DNA detection results from samples collected using autonomous water sampling robots and manual approaches. Samples were collected in the Upper Yellowstone River (Montana) and Upper Snake River (Idaho/Wyoming) in 2018 and 2019. Samples were tested for the DNA of the following species: the waterborne protozoa Naegleria spp., the fish pathogen Tetracapsuloides bryosalmonae...
PCR results from dreissenid mussel round robin assay analyses, 2018-2019 PCR results from dreissenid mussel round robin assay analyses, 2018-2019
Real-time PCR results of a round robin evaluation of 5 assays that target dreissenid mussel DNA. Water samples collected from waters with and without dreissenid mussels were analyzed using these five assays in four USGS laboratories. Samples from waters without dreissenid mussels were spiked with known amounts of dreissend DNA.
Avalanche occurrence records along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, Glacier National Park, Montana from 2003-2024 (ver. 4.0, November 2024) Avalanche occurrence records along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, Glacier National Park, Montana from 2003-2024 (ver. 4.0, November 2024)
Starting in 2003, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center in West Glacier, MT, in collaboration with the National Park Service, collected avalanche observations along the Going to the Sun Road during the spring road-clearing operations. The spring road-clearing along Going to the Sun Road utilized a team of avalanche specialists from the USGS and Glacier...
