Kilauea Message 2025-05-06 17:36:35 HST
Episode 20 sustained lava fountaining began at 5:28 p.m. on May 6 as north vent cyclic gas-pistoning transitioned to continuous eruption of lava fountains that grew rapidly in vigor and height. Slow lava flow continues from south vent.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-06 17:12:56 HST
Episode 20 precursory low-level activity continues. South vent lava flows and north vent lava dome fountains and overflows have become more vigorous throughout the day. Sustained lava fountaining is likely to start between now and tomorrow.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-06 15:09:27 HST
Episode 20 precursory low-level activity continues. A new flow began erupting from south vent ~1:55 p.m. Dome fountains, flows and drainbacks continue from north vent. Sustained lava fountaining is likely to start between now and tomorrow.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-06 12:25:50 HST
Episode 20 low-level precursory activity continues. Gas-pistoning cycles in the north vent are producing small lava dome fountains, short lava flows and drainbacks. Sustained lava fountaining is likely to start between now and tomorrow.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-05 20:05:58 HST
Episode 20 precursory low-level activity continues. Strong glow is visible from both vents. ~30 gas piston cycles have occured in north vent since 10:48 a.m. Main lava fountaining phase is likely to start within 24 hours.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-05 11:51:56 HST
A small, slow moving lava flow began erupting from the south vent at about 11:23 am HST. Cyclic dome fountaining continues in the north vent. This behavior may continue as precursory activity to the episode 20 main fountaining.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-05 10:54:32 HST
A small dome fountain in the north vent began at about 10:48 am HST on May 5.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-02 05:44:47 HST
Episode 19 ended at 5:20 am HST after erupting for just under 8 hours from the north vent only. The eruption produced just under 4 million cubic yards of lava. North vent flows covered about half of the floor of Halemaʻumaʻu crater.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-01 21:54:54 HST
The fountain phase of episode 19 began at 9:28 pm HST when lower dome fountains transitioned into 200 foot high fountains from the north vent. Summit tilt began deflating and tremor increased at this time. South vent is not active
Kilauea Message 2025-05-01 15:53:10 HST
This cyclic eruption of degassed lava may continue as precursory behavior to the episode 19 main fountaining. Each cycle so far has lasted about 12 min, overflowing the cone rim for about 6 min, with 9 min of repose time between each cycle.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-01 15:21:33 HST
The 10th cycle of the episode 19 precursory pistoning activity at the north vent began at 3:07 pm HST. Lava from the low dome fountains filled the cone and produced short overflows of the rim. The lava started to drain back at 3:20 pm HST.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-01 14:59:22 HST
The 9th cycle of the episode 19 precursory pistoning activity at the north vent began at 2:46 pm HST. Lava from the low dome fountains filled the cone and produced short overflows of the rim. The lava started to drain back at 2:57 pm HST.
