Kilauea Message 2025-05-01 12:12:12 HST
Weak spattering in the north vent transitioned to a 15-30 foot high dome fountain at 11:49 am HST. Continued fountaining filled the vent with lava by 11:59 am HST. Just after noon lava drained back into the vent.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-30 20:27:22 HST
Spattering and flames have been nearly continuous at the north vent since 6:30 pm HST. Spatter bursts continue to increase with heights just over 30 feet (10 meters) at 8:30 pm HST. The flames are likely due to burning of hydrogen gas.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-29 19:42:02 HST
Minor spattering within the north vent began before 5:00 pm HST and was more visible as it got darker. Spatter bursts increased in intensity and frequency after 6:35 pm HST. Standing lava is not currently visible in either vent.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-27 19:49:20 HST
Weak spatter bursts began from the north vent just before 6:50 pm HST tonight. The spatter bursts occur every 1 to 5 minutes with a few stronger bursts during the past 20 minutes. Glow can also be seen from the north and south vents.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-22 13:39:32 HST
Episode 18 of the Halemaʻumaʻu eruption ended abruptly at 1:28 p.m. HST on April 22, just over 10 hours after it started. Both the south and north fountains dropped rapidly together.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-22 04:37:28 HST
Fountains from the south vent are currently over 600 ft high and about 200 ft high from the north vent. The plume is going straight up due to calm winds. Expect the possible fall of Pele's hair and ash north to overlooks and communities.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-22 04:15:00 HST
Fountains from the south vent are approaching 500 feet high and are over 100 feet high from the north vent.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-22 03:57:03 HST
Episode 18 fountaining phase began with overflow of lava from the south vent and strong deflation at 3:20 pm HST April 22. Both the north and south vents began fountaining (s vent >200 feet) at 3:30 pm HST along with an increase in tremor.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-21 21:25:06 HST
Both the south and north vents are glowing strongly at 9:20 pm HST on April 21. Some minor spatter bursts seen at the north vent and possibly at the south vent in the past hour.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-20 12:49:38 HST
Lava stopped erupting from the south vent at 12:44 pm HST ending the fourth cycle today. The length of the eruptive cycles continues to get shorter and the pauses in between them continue to increase in duration.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-20 12:28:29 HST
Degassed lava began erupting again from the south vent at 12:22 p.m. HST and is refilling the channel from the earlier flows.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-20 11:45:48 HST
Eruption of lava from the south vent slowed starting at 11:12 am HST as lava in the vent gas-pistoned every 3 to 5 minutes. Overall eruptive activity declined and stopped, and the episode remains paused at 11:45 am HST.
