Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Hydrologic metric changes across the conterminous United States Hydrologic metric changes across the conterminous United States
This metadata record describes the observed and estimated hydrologic metrics for the 1980 to 2019 period for U.S. Geological Survey streamgage locations across the Conterminous United States. The datasets are arranged in four files: (1) CONUS_Observed_Estimated_HMs_Annual_Monthly.csv, (2) CONUS_Bootstrap_Validations_for_Models.csv, (3) CONUS_Streamflow_Gages_for_Models.csv, and (4) Data...
Epidemiologic and diagnostic data from two red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) and one fisher (Pekania pennanti) with highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 submitted to the USGS National Wildlife Health Center in 2022 Epidemiologic and diagnostic data from two red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) and one fisher (Pekania pennanti) with highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 submitted to the USGS National Wildlife Health Center in 2022
This dataset includes epidemiology, clinical signs, gross and microscopic pathology, and virology data from two red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) and one fisher (Pekania pennanti) submitted to the USGS-National Wildlife Health Center for cause-of-death determination and confirmed positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 by USDA’s National Veterinary Services Laboratories. The...
Contaminant Data from a Survey of Minnesota Source and Finished Drinking Waters, 2019-2022 Contaminant Data from a Survey of Minnesota Source and Finished Drinking Waters, 2019-2022
The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Health, conducted a study to determine the occurrence of unregulated contaminants in source and finished drinking waters throughout Minnesota. Minnesota relies on both groundwater and surface water sources for drinking water, which may be vulnerable to influences such as wastewater discharge and/or agricultural...
Phragmites australis Transcriptome Assembly Optimization Phragmites australis Transcriptome Assembly Optimization
Nonnative Phragmites australis (common reed) is widely distributed across North America and insufficient knowledge of P. australis has impeded the efficiency of management. To aid in Phragmites management and future studies, we used RNA-seq data from multiple types of plant tissue to construct forty-nine P. australis transcriptomes via different assembly tools and multiple parameter...
The Wildfire Hazard and Risk Assessment Inventory (ver. 2.0, September 2024) The Wildfire Hazard and Risk Assessment Inventory (ver. 2.0, September 2024)
The Department of the Interior (DOI) Office of Wildland Fire and USGS created the The Wildfire Hazard and Risk Assessment Inventory to meet the Monitoring, Maintenance, and Treatment Plan requirements under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). It provides an inventory of key national, regional, and state wildfire risk and fire hazard assessments useful for understanding different
Model simulation output from a magnitude 7 eruption: the distal Mazama tephra Model simulation output from a magnitude 7 eruption: the distal Mazama tephra
This data release contains model input and output for 57 simulations of tephra dispersal during the 7.8 ka Mazama eruption. Data were generated during in preparation of the following paper: Buckland HM, Mastin L, Engwell S, Cashman K (2022 (in pess)) Modelling the transport and deposition of ash following a Magnitude 7 eruption: the distal Mazama tephra. plumeria PMAP software release 1.0.3 plumeria PMAP software release 1.0.3
The PMAP tool is a one-dimensional plume model that predicts ash aggregation within an erupting volcanic plume. The tool was developed by D. W. Hoffman at Stanford, extending from the Plumeria model written by L. G. Mastin at USGS CVO. The code operates using Matlab. The purpose of this repository is to present the code used in the following publication, currently under review at Journal...
Calculated baseflow recession characteristics for streamflow gauging locations for the western and eastern United States, 1900 to 2018 Calculated baseflow recession characteristics for streamflow gauging locations for the western and eastern United States, 1900 to 2018
This metadata record describes observed and predicted baseflow recession characteristics for 300 streamflow gauges in the western United States and 282 streamflow gauges in the eastern United States. Specifically, this record describes (1) the streamflow gauge locations (west or east) in the United States (Location), (2) the U.S. Geological Survey streamflow gauge identification numbers...
Lake Ontario April Prey Fish Bottom Trawl Survey, 1978-2022 Lake Ontario April Prey Fish Bottom Trawl Survey, 1978-2022
This data release includes Lake Ontario prey fish data including species captured, relative abundance, spatial distribution, size structure, and age data from the April or spring prey fish bottom trawl survey, 1978 through 2022. Data from 1978 - 2015 are from U.S. waters of Lake Ontario while data from 2016 - 2022 include both U.S. and Canadian waters of Lake Ontario. Details about the...
Concentrations of metals and other water quality data for the Assabet and Concord Rivers, Massachusetts, 2008 Concentrations of metals and other water quality data for the Assabet and Concord Rivers, Massachusetts, 2008
This dataset contains water-quality data for stream samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey at 12 sites on the Assabet and Concord Rivers in eastern Massachusetts in 2008. The samples were collected monthly from June to October, 2008. The water-quality parameters and constituents include field parameters (water temperature, specific conductance, pH, and dissolved oxygen)...
SPARROW Model Inputs and Estimated Effects of Agricultural Conservation Practices on Total Nitrogen in Streams of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed SPARROW Model Inputs and Estimated Effects of Agricultural Conservation Practices on Total Nitrogen in Streams of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed
This data release contains input and output data tables from a SPAtially Referenced Regression On Watershed attributes (SPARROW) model, which estimated total nitrogen loads in streams of the Chesapeake Bay watershed under varying better management practice implementation scenarios. Further documentation about the SPARROW modeling framework can be found here: https://pubs.er.usgs.gov...
MODFLOW6 models used to evaluate potential stresses and hydrologic conditions driving water-level fluctuations in well ER-5-3-2, Frenchman Flat, Southern Nevada MODFLOW6 models used to evaluate potential stresses and hydrologic conditions driving water-level fluctuations in well ER-5-3-2, Frenchman Flat, Southern Nevada
The hydrograph for well ER-5-3-2 in Frenchman Flat, southern Nevada, has previously unexplained water-level fluctuations. Four, three-dimensional, groundwater models (MODFLOW 6) were developed to evaluate potential stresses and hydrologic conditions affecting the well ER-5-3-2 hydrograph. Four model scenarios were developed that simulated: (1) wellbore leakage without recharge, (2)...
