Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Mercury and selenium concentrations in bird eggs at Great Salt Lake, Utah Mercury and selenium concentrations in bird eggs at Great Salt Lake, Utah

These metadata provide data used to examine mercury and selenium concentrations in eggs of birds breeding in wetlands of the Great Salt Lake ecosystem, Utah, particularly at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. Eggs were salvaged during 2010 - 2012 and include 33 species of birds. These data support the following publication: Ackerman, J.T., Herzog, M.P., Hartman, C.A., Isanhart, J...

Tree ring dataset for a regional avalanche chronology in northwest Montana, 1636-2017 Tree ring dataset for a regional avalanche chronology in northwest Montana, 1636-2017

This dataset includes processed tree ring data from avalanche paths in Glacier National Park and the Flathead National Forest in northwest Montana. The data were processed in three distinct phases that resulted in this dataset: collection, processing, and avalanche signal analysis. This dataset consists of samples from 647 trees with 2304 growth disturbances identified from 12 avalanche...

Salvinia/weevil case study: Using drones to monitor weevil propagation in Salvinia aquatics (ver. 2.0, August 2023) Salvinia/weevil case study: Using drones to monitor weevil propagation in Salvinia aquatics (ver. 2.0, August 2023)

During summer months, coastal Louisiana is plagued with floating aquatics that fill and block canals and small waterways causing trouble for boaters. This floating aquatic starts growing in the spring and dies off in late summer and early winter months. One natural predator of the Salvinia sp is the weevil that forages on the Salvinia and causes premature die-off. These weevils do exist...

Partitioning of six pyrethroid insecticides at varying salinities Partitioning of six pyrethroid insecticides at varying salinities

To determine aqueous pyrethroid partitioning across a salinity gradient 20 mL Pyrex beakers were filled with 8 mL of deionized water at varying salinities (0, 0.5, 2, 6 ppt). Salinity was adjusted using a 10 ppt stock solution (made by diluting Instant Ocean into deionized water). The water samples were spiked with pyrethroids (bifenthrin, cyhalothrin, cyfluthrin, cypermethrin...

Data for Dust deposited on snow cover in the San Juan Mountains, Colorado, 2011-2016: Compositional variability bearing on snow-melt effects Data for Dust deposited on snow cover in the San Juan Mountains, Colorado, 2011-2016: Compositional variability bearing on snow-melt effects

Light-absorbing particles in atmospheric dust deposited on snow cover (dust-on-snow, DOS) diminish albedo and accelerate the timing and rate of snow melt. Identification of these particles and their effects are relevant to snow-radiation modeling and water-resource management. Laboratory-measured reflectance of DOS samples from the San Juan Mountains (USA) were compared with DOS mass...

Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey of the southeast Mojave Desert, California and Nevada Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey of the southeast Mojave Desert, California and Nevada

A high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey of the southeast Mojave Desert, parts of California and Nevada was flown by EDCON-PRJ, Inc. from December 13, 2019 to March 21, 2020. The high-resolution fixed-wing survey was flown at a flightline spacing of 200 m, an azimuth of 70 degrees, a nominal elevation above ground of 100 m, and consists of about 17,277 line-kilometers...
