Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Reflectance spectra collected August 16, 2022, at Smith Creek Valley, Nevada, with an ASD FieldSpecⓇ 4 Hi-Res NG spectrometer for calibration/validation of imaging spectrometer data Reflectance spectra collected August 16, 2022, at Smith Creek Valley, Nevada, with an ASD FieldSpecⓇ 4 Hi-Res NG spectrometer for calibration/validation of imaging spectrometer data
A full description of all collection and processing steps is included in this data release as: ‘SmithCreekPlayaNV_16aug2022_ProcessingSteps.pdf’. Reflectance data were collected using Malvern Panalytical ASD FieldSpec® 4 Hi-Res NG Spectroradiometers with custom VNIR gratings (hereafter referred to as ASD spectrometers) on August 16, 2022, at a field site in Smith Creek Valley, Nevada...
Gravity, density, and magnetic property measurements of the Sierra Nevada, California and Nevada Gravity, density, and magnetic property measurements of the Sierra Nevada, California and Nevada
This data release presents point data associated with the geologic and geophysical maps of the Sierra Nevada Digital Earth Science Atlas led by the California Geological Survey and U.S. Geological Survey. Data include principal fact information for new gravity measurements collected by the U.S. Geological Survey from 2012 to 2023 and for existing gravity measurements compiled from 21...
Landslides triggered by the February 2019 atmospheric river storm, western Riverside County, California, USA Landslides triggered by the February 2019 atmospheric river storm, western Riverside County, California, USA
On February 14th, 2019, a strong atmospheric river storm (AR4 on the Atmospheric River scale of Ralph et al., 2019) struck California. The heavy rainfall caused landslides in both northern and southern California (Hatchett et al., 2020). This data release includes two subsets of mapped shallow landslide source locations in the vicinity of western Riverside County, California, where...
Laboratory Evaluation of Phototaxis in Cultured Cisco Larvae Laboratory Evaluation of Phototaxis in Cultured Cisco Larvae
Field observations in a Lake Ontario embayment suggested that there is a phototaxic response of larval cisco that changes with development. This switch was verified using cultured cisco in a laboratory environment. These data include counts of cisco larvae at three depth ranges within multiple 95 liter tanks. Each tank of larvae were exposed to one of three different light treatments...
Foundational Geospatial Layers for South Carolina StreamStats 2024 Foundational Geospatial Layers for South Carolina StreamStats 2024
In cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the U.S. Geological Survey updated the foundational geospatial layers for the South Carolina StreamStats web application (https://water.usgs.gov/osw/streamstats/), which provides analytical tools useful for water-resources planning and management (Kolb and others, 2018). This dataset presents the digital elevation model...
Landslides triggered by the January 10th, 2005 storm in the vicinity of La Conchita, Ventura County, California, USA Landslides triggered by the January 10th, 2005 storm in the vicinity of La Conchita, Ventura County, California, USA
The area surrounding La Conchita, California (CA), USA experienced significant landslides and debris flows following a storm on January 10th, 2005, including a deadly deep-seated landslide that destroyed 13 houses and caused 10 fatalities (Jibson, 2006). This data release documents the locations of shallow landslide source locations in the vicinity of the deadly 2005 La Conchita...
Future Climate and Hydrology from Twenty Localized Constructed Analog (LOCA) Scenarios and the Basin Characterization Model (BCMv8) (ver. 1.1, November 2024) Future Climate and Hydrology from Twenty Localized Constructed Analog (LOCA) Scenarios and the Basin Characterization Model (BCMv8) (ver. 1.1, November 2024)
This data release contains monthly 270-meter resolution Basin Characterization Model (BCMv8) climate and hydrologic variables for Localized Constructed Analog (LOCA; Pierce et al., 2014)-downscaled Global Climate Models (GCMs) for Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 (medium-low emissions) and 8.5 (high emissions) for hydrologic California. The 20 future climate scenarios...
Benthic algae community composition data from the Colorado River Basin, Colorado, from 2022-23 Benthic algae community composition data from the Colorado River Basin, Colorado, from 2022-23
This dataset includes benthic algae community composition data in the Colorado River near Cameo, Colorado, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) site number 09095500, from 2022 to 2023, and from three sites in the upper White River Basin, Colorado, in 2022. Taxonomic classification of algae species is not known well in theses rivers, and this study was conducted to record different algae species...
Hyperspectral profiles of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and other algae, 2022 Hyperspectral profiles of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and other algae, 2022
This dataset is a collection of hyperspectral imagery profiles of algae, many associated with Harmful Algae Blooms (HABs). Data were collected using a microscope-based hyperspectral imaging system with the cooperation of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Samples were collected from U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) water quality sampling efforts, to include water quality...
Stability testing results for stock solutions to standardize calibration of field fluorescence sensors Stability testing results for stock solutions to standardize calibration of field fluorescence sensors
Optical sensors measuring fluorescence of dissolved organic matter (fDOM) are increasingly used in water quality studies because they provide proxy measurements for a variety of contaminants and constituents of concern including metals and wastewater effluent. Similarly, sensors measuring fluorescence of chlorophyll (fChl) and phycocyanin (fPC) have gained popularity to measure...
Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources-Wind River Basin: Chapter O, Spatial Data Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources-Wind River Basin: Chapter O, Spatial Data
The storage assessment unit (SAU) is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment of Geologic Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources project for the assessment of geologic CO2 storage resources. The SAU is shown here as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the assessment interval. Individual SAUs are defined on the basis of common...
Daily Streamflow Data of Swift Reservoir Outflow and Selected Diversions from Birch Creek, Pondera County, Montana, January 2020 through December 2022 Daily Streamflow Data of Swift Reservoir Outflow and Selected Diversions from Birch Creek, Pondera County, Montana, January 2020 through December 2022
In 2019, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Blackfeet Water Department, initiated a multi-year hydrologic investigation of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. The investigation was designed to increase understanding of the water resources of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation including Birch Creek which forms the southern boundary of the reservation. Streamflow is...
