Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Sediment Radiochemical Data from Georgia, Massachusetts and Virginia Coastal Marshes Sediment Radiochemical Data from Georgia, Massachusetts and Virginia Coastal Marshes

This data release is an archive of sedimentary laboratory analytical data produced by scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC) for sediment cores and surface samples collected from coastal marshes in Georgia (GA), Virginia (VA), and Massachusetts (MA). Collaborators from USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center (PWRC) and the...

ModelMuse Version 4.3 Software Release ModelMuse Version 4.3 Software Release

ModelMuse is a graphical user interface (GUI) for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) models MODFLOW 6, MODFLOW 2005, MODFLOW LGR, MODFLOW LGR2, MODFLOW NWT, MODFLOW CFP, MODFLOW OWHM, MODPATH, ZONEBUDGET, PHAST, SUTRA 2.2, SUTRA 3.0, MT3D USGS, and WellFootprint and the non USGS model MT3DMS. This software package provides a GUI for creating the flow and transport input file for PHAST and...

Adult net-spinning caddisfly (Hydropsyche spp.) catch rates and morphology from large rivers of the southwestern United States, 2015-2016 Adult net-spinning caddisfly (Hydropsyche spp.) catch rates and morphology from large rivers of the southwestern United States, 2015-2016

These data describe the distribution and abundance of Hydropsyche, a widespread and diverse genus of net-spinning caddisflies, in the Colorado River Basin. Abundance data, measured as catch rates, were collected by citizen scientists using light traps. We subsampled Hydropsyche spp. from light trap samples collected throughout the Colorado River Basin and measured the lengths and widths...

Data for modeling fountain grass and bishop's goutweed in the contiguous US Data for modeling fountain grass and bishop's goutweed in the contiguous US

This data bundle contains the merged data sets to create models for bishop's goutweed and fountaingrass using the VisTrails:SAHM [SAHM 2.1.0]. We developed species distribution models for both species following a workflow designed to balance automation and human intervention to produce models for invasive plant species of concern to U.S. land managers. Location data came from existing...

Geochemical and mineralogical analyses of uranium ores from the Hack II and Pigeon deposits, solution-collapse breccia pipes, Grand Canyon region, Mohave and Coconino Counties, Arizona, USA Geochemical and mineralogical analyses of uranium ores from the Hack II and Pigeon deposits, solution-collapse breccia pipes, Grand Canyon region, Mohave and Coconino Counties, Arizona, USA

This data release compiles the whole-rock geochemistry, X-ray diffraction, and electron microscopy analyses of samples collected from the uranium ore bodies of two mined-out deposits in the Grand Canyon region of northwestern Arizona - the Hack II and Pigeon deposits. The samples are grab samples of ore collected underground at each mine by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) during the...

Data collected about behavioral responses to high temperatures in desert grassland bird in 2007, 2011-2013 Data collected about behavioral responses to high temperatures in desert grassland bird in 2007, 2011-2013

These data include information about the year, date, time, and shrub identifying number where the following data were collected - the number of Grasshopper Sparrows that were flushed from the shrub, the air temperature (not in direct sun), relative humidity (not in direct sun), ground temperature in sun, ground temperature beneath shrub, air temperature in the shrub, and relative...

Compilation of geologic slip rate constraints used in 1996 - 2014 U.S. National Seismic Hazard Maps Compilation of geologic slip rate constraints used in 1996 - 2014 U.S. National Seismic Hazard Maps

A key input for probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) is geologic slip rate data. Yet, no single database exists to house all geologic slip rate data used in these calculations. Here, we compile all geologic slip rates that are reportedly used in U.S. National Seismic Hazard Map (NSHM) releases from 1996, 2002, 2007, 2008, and 2014. Although a new NSHM was released in 2018, no...

Temperature and geophysical data collected along the Quashnet River, Mashpee/Falmouth MA (ver. 2.0, March 2020) Temperature and geophysical data collected along the Quashnet River, Mashpee/Falmouth MA (ver. 2.0, March 2020)

The temperature and surface geophysical data contained in this release have primarily been collected to support groundwater/surface water methods development, and to characterize the hydrogeological controls on native brook trout habitat. All data have been collected since 2010 along the Quashnet River corridor located on Cape Cod, MA, USA. Cape Cod is a peninsula in southeastern coastal

Thermal infrared and photogrammetric data collected by drone for hydrogeologic characterization around two US Geological Survey Next Generation Water Observing Systems stream gage locations near Claryville, NY, USA Thermal infrared and photogrammetric data collected by drone for hydrogeologic characterization around two US Geological Survey Next Generation Water Observing Systems stream gage locations near Claryville, NY, USA

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collected low-altitude (typically 200-350 ft above land surface) airborne thermal infrared, and visual imagery data via a multirotor, small unoccupied aircraft system (UAS or 'drone') deployed along the river corridor encompassing two U.S. Geological Survey Next Generation Water Observing Systems (NGWOS) stream gage locations near Claryville, NY, USA...

Geospatial Datasets for the Flood-Inundation Study of Little Calumet River from Lansing to South Holland, Illinois, 2020 Geospatial Datasets for the Flood-Inundation Study of Little Calumet River from Lansing to South Holland, Illinois, 2020

Digital flood-inundation maps for about an 8-mile reach of the Little Calumet River, Illinois, were created by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The flood-inundation maps, which can be accessed through the USGS Flood Inundation Mapping Program website at https://www.usgs.gov/mission-areas/water-resources/science/flood-inundation...

Surface Geophysical data collected along Blacktail Creek in June 2017 near Williston, North Dakota, USA Surface Geophysical data collected along Blacktail Creek in June 2017 near Williston, North Dakota, USA

The extraction of unconventional oil and gas (UOG) resources often produces highly saline waste waters, which can be released to the river corridor environment during spills and pipe leakage. In North Dakota, USA more than 8,000 spills were recorded from 2008-2015, and more than half of those spills were related to pipelines. Data collected for this study were related to UOG wastewater...

Aerial imagery and photogrammetric products from unmanned aerial systems (UAS) flights over the Lake Ontario shoreline at Chimney Bluffs, New York, July 14, 2017 Aerial imagery and photogrammetric products from unmanned aerial systems (UAS) flights over the Lake Ontario shoreline at Chimney Bluffs, New York, July 14, 2017

Low-altitude (80-100 meters above ground level) digital images were obtained from a camera mounted on a 3DR Solo quadcopter, a small unmanned aerial system (UAS), in three locations along the Lake Ontario shoreline in New York during July 2017. These data were collected to document and monitor effects of high lake levels, including shoreline erosion, inundation, and property damage in...
