Wave energy dissipation by intertidal sand waves on a mixed-sediment Beach Wave energy dissipation by intertidal sand waves on a mixed-sediment Beach
Within the surf zone, the energy expended by wave breaking is strongly influenced by nearshore bathymetry, which is often linked to the character and abundance of local sediments. Based upon a continuous, two year record of Argus Beach Monitoring System (ABMS) data on the north shore of Kachemak Bay in southcentral Alaska, we model the enhancement of wave energy dissipation by the...

Habitat and fish population in the deep-sea Oculina coral ecosystem of the western Atlantic Habitat and fish population in the deep-sea Oculina coral ecosystem of the western Atlantic
In this paper, we describe results from mapping studies conducted in 2001 and improvements to reef fish populations that have occurred in the last few years. We find that less than 10% of the area contains intact Oculina coral thickets, which we continue to attribute primarily to trawling. In addition, we find increased grouper density and male abundance inside the protected area...
