Data

The USGS Washington Water Science Center currently operates over 380 data-collection sites in Washington.  The sites collect surface water, groundwater, water quality and meteorological data that are available in real time.  Current and historical data can be retrieved from Water Data for the Nation and the National Water Dashboard.

Separately published data releases are listed below.

Longitudinal profiles of water temperature in Mill Creek, Mason County, Washington, measured using fiber-optic distributed temperature sensing (FO-DTS) Longitudinal profiles of water temperature in Mill Creek, Mason County, Washington, measured using fiber-optic distributed temperature sensing (FO-DTS)

This data release contains fiber-optic distributed temperature sensor (FO-DTS) data for three reaches of Mill Creek collected during two deployments between August 20, 2020, and September 4, 2020. Spatially continuous profiles of water temperature were collected with a Sensornet® Oryx DTS FO-DTS. At each of the three reaches, water temperature was spatially averaged over 1.015-meter...

Quinault River water temperature and salmon bioenergetics model data Quinault River water temperature and salmon bioenergetics model data

This data release contains the complete set of modeling input and output files for a Heat Source water temperature model and fish bioenergetics model on the lower Quinault River in Washington state. A detailed description of the modeling process, results, and interpretation can be found in the associated primary publication.

Sediment chemistry and characteristics of samples collected in 2019 from the Similkameen River above Enloe Dam, Okanogan County, Washington (ver. 3.0, March 2022) Sediment chemistry and characteristics of samples collected in 2019 from the Similkameen River above Enloe Dam, Okanogan County, Washington (ver. 3.0, March 2022)

This data release provides information on the chemistry and character of bed sediments accumulated in the 1.6-mile long impoundment behind Enloe Dam on the Similkameen River in Okanogan County, WA. Sediment samples were collected during four weeks in October – December 2019. The sampling locations were distributed among 10 transects that ranged from 0.1-0.2 miles apart along the length...

Supporting data for and predictions from streamflow permanence modeling in Mt. Rainier National Park and surrounding area, Washington, 2018-2020 Supporting data for and predictions from streamflow permanence modeling in Mt. Rainier National Park and surrounding area, Washington, 2018-2020

In June, 2022, the Mount Rainier Streamflow Permanence model was revised to replace monthly climatic covariates with seven-month summaries to address peer-review comments related to inclusion of correlated covariates into the model. Replacement of the monthly covariates resulted in changes to the model source code and model outputs, which are now annual probabilities of streamflow...

Lithologic classifications of river gravels in the Sauk River watershed Lithologic classifications of river gravels in the Sauk River watershed

The rock type, or lithology, of river gravels provides information about the bedrock source area of that material, and can act as a tracer to help assess relative gravel contributions from tributaries or distinct valley deposits. Between July 2020 and August 2021, gravels at 29 sites in the Sauk, Suiattle and White Chuck rivers were collected and sorted into simple lithologic categories...

Accelerometer scour monitor data on the Sauk River, Washington, Water Year 2018 Accelerometer scour monitor data on the Sauk River, Washington, Water Year 2018

Accelerometer scour monitors were deployed on the Sauk River, Washington during Water Year 2018 as part of a study on the timing of streambed scour in salmon-spawning habitat. This data release contains data of the three-dimensional orientation recorded at 15-minute intervals for the accelerometer monitors. Each accelerometer scour monitor was comprised of one to two individual...

Suspended Sediment and Water Temperature Data in the Suiattle River and the Downey Creek Tributary, Washington for select time periods over 2013 - 2017 Suspended Sediment and Water Temperature Data in the Suiattle River and the Downey Creek Tributary, Washington for select time periods over 2013 - 2017

This data release provides suspended-sediment (concentration and load) and water temperature data for two locations along the Suiattle River (USGS 1217900 and 12188380) and a tributary, Downey Creek (USGS 1217985) in Washington State for partial periods over 2013-2017. Suspended-sediment and water temperature data were collected over two summer seasons from May through September 2016 and...

Supporting Datasets for Proglacial Topographic Change Analyses on Mount Rainier, 1960 to 2017 Supporting Datasets for Proglacial Topographic Change Analyses on Mount Rainier, 1960 to 2017

This data release is a repository for data presented in Anderson and Shean (2021), a publication looking at topographic change in proglacial and glacier-marginal areas on Mount Rainier between 1960 and 2017. Datasets include all newly derived digital elevation models, shapefiles defining various areas of analysis, and tabular summaries of data presented in figures. See individual child...

WaterWatch (surface water) WaterWatch (surface water)

WaterWatch displays maps, graphs, and tables describing real-time, recent, and past streamflow conditions for the United States, including flood and droughts. Real-time information generally is updated on an hourly basis.

Counts, Fish Weights, and Spectral Data from a Juvenile Chinook Salmon Polyester Microplastic Fiber Exposure Study Counts, Fish Weights, and Spectral Data from a Juvenile Chinook Salmon Polyester Microplastic Fiber Exposure Study

This release includes all data collected in support of a juvenile Chinook salmon exposure study designed to understand the retention of microplastic clothing fibers (hereon referred to as "microfibers") after feeding. To understand the potential impacts of microfiber ingestion to fish, we ran a feeding experiment with juvenile Chinook salmon to determine if ingested fibers are retained...

Water temperature and riparian vegetation survey data for the lower Quinault River, WA for select periods in 2018 and 2019 Water temperature and riparian vegetation survey data for the lower Quinault River, WA for select periods in 2018 and 2019

This data release includes hourly water temperature data at 12 locations in the main stem of the Quinault River and its major tributaries, and data from a riparian vegetation survey conducted in the lower Quinault River, Washington. Water temperature data was collected during the summer of 2018 and 2019 at most locations. Variable collection periods by site are described within the...

Non-linear baseflow separation model with parameters and results (ver. 3.0, December 2025) Non-linear baseflow separation model with parameters and results (ver. 3.0, December 2025)

This data release provides source code and an R workspace with functions comprising a non-linear baseflow separation model, calibrated values of parameters and estimates of the baseflow component of daily streamflow at selected streamflow gages. Parameter values were determined by calibration of the model. Estimates of the baseflow component include daily values and the total baseflow as...
