Tsunami evacuation time map for the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, extreme tsunami evacuation zone and fast walk speed

The travel time map was generated using the Pedestrian Evacuation Analyst model from the USGS (https://geography.wr.usgs.gov/science/vulnerability/tools.html). Simulated 1km resolution 1971-2015 ecosystem carbon variables from the IBIS model (2017/09/12)

This simulated ecosystem carbon dataset is derived from simulations of the parallel Integrated Biosphere simulator (pIBIS). Data - Removing roads from the National Land Cover Database to create improved urban maps for the United States, 1992-2011

To better map the urban class and understand how urban lands change over time, we removed rural roads and small patches of rural development from the NLCD developed class and created four wall-to-wall maps (1992, 2001, 2006, and 2011) of urban land.

Forest harvest patterns on private lands in the Cascade Mountains, Washington, USA

To investigate the rates, causes, and spatial and temporal patterns of forest harvest on private tracts throughout the Cascade Mountains, we relied on a new generation of annual land-use/land-cover (LULC) products created from the application of the Continuous Change Detection and Classification (CCDC) algorithm to Landsat satellite imagery collected from 1985 to 2014.

The Hazard Exposure Reporting and Analytics (HERA) application was developed to provide users with insight on potential population, economic, land cover, and infrastructure vulnerability resulting a hazard. Oahu Tsunami Evacuation Dashboard

Tsunami waves created by earthquakes far from Hawai’i arrive hours later along Hawaiian shorelines but can be difficult to escape if everyone uses their cars to evacuate. Working with the Hawai’i Emergency Management Agency, researchers with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) used computer modeling to identify areas where people should be able to evacuate on foot in less than 15 minutes.

Field Photo Map

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Land Cover Trends field photography collection is 33,000 ground-referenced photos at a national-scale. The photos initially served as a research tool to aid in Landsat-derived land-use/land-cover (LULC) change analyses and assessments between 1999 and 2009.
