A cluster of about 28 earthquakes 5-10 km deep occurred beneath the north side of Mauna Kea between 2 pm and 10 pm on March 26. The largest were two magnitude 3 earthquakes. These events are not related to magma movement. View All Messages.

South fountain dropping and began jetting around 6:18 and disappeared at 6:21 along with north vent. Ash plume lingering around 10,000 feet and still drifting to north. Only very sparse ash in Hilo at 6 pm HST and expected to stop. View All Messages.

Where has tephra fallout been reported?

Tephra is material erupted from a volcano that travels through the air. Volcanic ash, Pele's hair, and other tephra have fallen on communities downwind during lava fountaining episodes at the summit of Kīlauea.
