Kilauea Message 2026-01-24 10:47:24 HST
The south vent has been overflowing continuously since 10:07 am HST. Sustained dome fountains 10-20 feet (3-6 meters) high at both vents are feeding precursory lava flows out into the middle of Halemaʻumaʻu crater.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-24 07:54:38 HST
The north vent has been overflowing continuously since 3:52 am HST while the south vent continues to have intermittent overflows related to gas pistoning in the vent. Episode 41 fountaining is likely to begin today. See Update for more.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-24 06:50:34 HST
A large overflow from the south vent began at 6:40 a.m. HST and is continuing at this time. The north vent continues to overflow as well.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-24 06:18:42 HST
Small fountains became visible in the south vent became visible just before 6 am HST and another short overflow occurred from 6:13-6:16 am. Overflows continue from the north vent.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-24 06:03:06 HST
The north vent has been overflowing continuously since 3:52 am HST. Spatter fountains grew to 10-15 feet high with an increase in effusion rate at about 4:47 am. Lava overflowed the south vent twice for a few minutes at 3:11 and 5:18 am.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-22 23:22:08 HST
A second small overflow from the north vent began at 11:13 pm HST and died within 2-3 minutes. Additional precursory overflows are expected prior to the start of episode 41 fountaining forecast for January 23-25.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-22 22:59:38 HST
Spattering at the north vent became more vigorous at about 10:40 pm HST and fed a small overflow. The overflow lasted for about 5 minutes before spattering died back.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-20 06:09:19 HST
Two seismic swarms beneath Halemaʻumaʻu and south caldera January 19 at 1:37 pm and 9:25 pm HST. The latter lasted 20-30 minutes and triggered a 1.5 microradian drop in UWD tilt. Strong glow from vents was not affected by this event.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-19 04:21:54 HST
Seismic swarm with about 20 small earthquakes began at 2:58 AM HST and lasted for about 30-40 minutes. A smaller swarm occurred just prior to 4 PM HST yesterday. Both swarms caused minor tilt drops, but no impact to eruption or rift zones.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-15 19:15:49 HST
There was a fourth seismic swarm that began beneath the southeast side of Halemaʻumaʻu at about 4 p.m. HST and continued for about 20 minutes. The summit tiltmeters were not effected and all activity remains within the summit region.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-14 22:05:24 HST
A small swarm of shallow earthquakes began beneath Kīlauea caldera on Wednesday January 14 at 7:35 p.m. HST and continued for 40 minutes. There was no observable change in the eruption and the rift zones remain quiet.
Kilauea Message 2026-01-12 18:28:32 HST
Episode 40 produced 7.1 million cubic yards (5.5 million cubic meters) of lava during the high fountain eruption. The average effusion rate was approximately 250 cubic yards per second (190 cubic meters per second) during episode 40.
