Matt and Miki are at replacing the V1 camera with a new model this morning. This camera has sound, so we are going to give that a try. Bear with us though, it is an experiment and may take a few days to get the bugs out, if it works :)
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2026-02-26 10:37:24 HST
HVO's V3 camera is now back online after onsite maintenance. Preliminary models suggest the likely forecast window for the onset of episode 43 lava fountaining is March 6-16.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2026-02-26 09:23:38 HST
HVO scientists are performing maintenance on the V3 livestream camera this morning. You may see glimpses of the people working on it as well as images of the ground and sky while it is being worked on.
Kilauea Message 2026-02-15 23:51:52 HST
Episode 42 ended at 11:38 pm HST. The south vent faltered and then jetted just after 11:34 p.m. Narrow jets erupted from the south vent in the last 2 minutes. The north vent dropped slowly at this time and also jetted in the last minute.
Kilauea Message 2026-02-15 23:22:12 HST
Both fountains have dropped to below 500 feet (150 meters). About 14 million cubic yards have been erupted and the UWD tiltmeter has recorded 33 microradians of deflation. Lava flows have covered 40-50% of the floor of Halemaʻumaʻu.
Kilauea Message 2026-02-15 20:42:02 HST
Fountains slowly dropped to about 650 and 550 ft (200 and 170 m) for the south and north vents. Over 10 million cubic yards (8 million cubic meters) of lava have erupted and the UWD tiltmeter recorded 27 microradians of deflation so far.
Kilauea Message 2026-02-15 19:14:10 HST
The south vent fountain is now 800 feet (250 meters) high and the north vent fountain is 600 feet (180 meters) high. The summit deflated 22 microradians while erupting 10 million cubic yards of lava covering 40% of the crater floor.
Kilauea Message 2026-02-15 17:36:24 HST
The south vent fountain continues to fluctuate between 800 and 1100 feet (250-350 meters) in height. Maximum effusion rate reached about 1000 cubic yards per second (770 cubic meters per second) during highest fountains around 2 pm HST.
Kilauea Message 2026-02-15 16:49:17 HST
The south vent fountain jetted up to over 1300 feet (400 meters) high. It is fluctuating from about 800 feet to 1300 feet (250-400 meters) high. North vent is about 800 feet (250 meters).
Kilauea Message 2026-02-15 15:34:35 HST
The maximum fountain height for the south vent remains around 1150 feet (350 meters) and about 800 feet (250 meters) for the north vent fountains. No falling ash has been reported at this time.
Kilauea Message 2026-02-15 14:44:55 HST
South vent fountain about 1000 to 1200 feet (300-350 meters) and are about 100-200 feet (30-60 meters) higher than the north vent fountain. NWS reports plume moving to the southwest.
Kilauea Message 2026-02-15 14:24:14 HST
The north vent fountain is approximately 600 feet high (180-190 meters) and the south vent about 400 feet high (120 meters). Fountains are continuing to build.
