Kilauea Message 2025-09-19 04:13:43 HST
A pulse of lava flooded the south vent burying the cone at 4:05 AM HST. The pulse continued for 2 minutes and then rapidly drained back into the south vent ending the south vent eruption. The north vent fountains continue unchanged.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-19 04:08:03 HST
Lava began erupting from the south vent forming a low dome fountain feeding a branching flow at 4:00 AM HST. North fountains do not appear to have changed significantly.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-19 04:00:38 HST
Current fountain heights are 700-800 feet (210-240 meters), the highest since episode 28 in July. The fountain remains inclined to the northeast at about 60 degrees, but less than episodes 31 and 32.

Kilauea Message 2025-09-19 03:32:14 HST
Episode 33 began this morning at 3:11 AM HST as fountaining increased along with a sharp increase in seismic tremor and rapid drop in tilt. Fountains are currently over 500 feet (150 meters) high and inclined to the north.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-19 03:20:33 HST
Continuous fountaining began at 2:44 AM HST this morning September 19th. Fountains are currently about 100 feet (30 meters) high and are feeding a flow on the crater floor. Episode 33 fountaining is about to start.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2025-09-18 20:37:02 HST
The magnidute 4.1 earthquake was felt widely across the Island of Hawaiʻi. Reported shaking was light and no damage is expected. The earthquake had no impoct on the ongoing eruptive activity.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2025-09-18 20:27:09 HST
On Thursday, September 18, 7:52 p.m. HST, a magnitude-4.1 earthquake occurred 2 mi (3 km) southwest of Pāhala on the Island of Hawaiʻi at a depth of 19 mi (31 km) below sea level. No impact on eruption.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-17 23:27:07 HST
A third event began with 10-20 foot (3-6 meter) high dome fountains as the vent filled and began overflowing at 23:23 PM HST. These overflows are vigorous and indicate degassed lava is being cleared from the vent.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-17 23:21:30 HST
Two large gas piston events with sizable overflows occurred from 22:43 to 22:51 PM HST and 23:01 to 23:17 PM HST. The second event had particularly large bubble-like bursts sending spatter 15-30 feet onto the outside of the north cone.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-17 18:37:43 HST
Spattering and flames are putting on a show from the north vent at dusk, though sporadic, spattering and flames have occurred all afternoon. Five small periods of precursory overflows occurred between 8:38 and 11:38 AM HST this morning.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-17 09:09:34 HST
Gas pistoning continued in the north vent and intermittently in the south vent. Small north vent overflows occurred at 8:38 AM and 8:59 AM HST during gas pistoning cycles. The new window for the start of episode 33 is Sept 17-20.
