Kilauea Message 2025-12-23 20:27:25 HST
Happy Anniversary to the Halemaʻumaʻu eruption which began a year ago on December 23, 2024. This is the 39th episode of high fountaining in the past year. Both north and south vent fountains are currently about 100 feet (30 meters) high.
Kilauea Message 2025-12-23 20:22:25 HST
Tremor and deflationary tilt suggest that episode 39 fountaining began at about 8:10 pm HST. Both the north and the south vent currently have fountains 30-70 feet (10-20 meters).
Kilauea Message 2025-12-23 19:48:57 HST
Both the north vent and south vent quit erupting at 7:45 pm HST. The north vent resumed eruption within a minute and the south vent restarted at 7:47 pm HST. North vent fountains are about 30 feet high, south vent about 10 feet high.
Kilauea Message 2025-12-23 19:39:29 HST
South vent began overflowing again at 7:30 pm HST joining the activity from the north vent. South vent stopped at 7:37 and restarted at about 7:40 pm HST.
Kilauea Message 2025-12-23 19:33:18 HST
South vent stopped and north vent began overflowing at 7:29 pm HST. North vent fountains are about 10-15 feet (3-5 meters) tall and quite vigorous.
Kilauea Message 2025-12-23 19:21:40 HST
It is possible that the current overflows may continue and progress into episode 39 fountains in the next 24-48 hours due to the lack of gas piston drainback events over the past several days. Tremor remains constant at moderate levels.
Kilauea Message 2025-12-23 19:16:01 HST
The overflows of degassed lava from the south vent paused briefly from 7:06 to 7:10 pm HST and now continue to feed a narrow ribbon of lava on the floor of Halemaʻumaʻu crater.
Kilauea Message 2025-12-23 18:45:47 HST
The south vent began overflowing at 6:41 pm HST. The flow extends about 100 feet from the vent. The north vent continues spattering with large flames of burning hydrogen.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2025-12-06 21:18:23 HST
Kilauea summit inflation has resumed after 33 microradians of deflation. Ep. 38 erupted 16 million cubic yards (12 million m^3) of lava. Combined average eruption rate was over 250 cubic yards (190 m^3) per second.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2025-12-06 20:57:18 HST
Episode 38 of the ongoing Halema'uma'u eruption ended at 8:52 PM HST on Saturday, December 6, after just over 12 hours of sustained lava fountaining.
Kilauea Message 2025-12-06 19:59:33 HST
South vent fountains are about 400 feet (120 meters) high. There has been about 31.5 microradians of deflation during episode 38, the largest recorded during this eruption. Approximately 13 million cubic yards of lava has been erupted.
