Kilauea Message 2026-04-09 13:09:51 HST
Due to hazardous tephra fallout and airborne ash downwind of Halemaʻumaʻu, Kīlauea's Volcano Alert Level has been raised to WARNING and its Aviation Color Code has been raised to RED.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2026-04-09 12:55:14 HST
USGS has increased Kilauea's Volcano Alert Level to WARNING and Aviation Color Code to RED. National Weather Service has issued an Ashfall Warning in effect for east Hawaii. This is response to windblown tephra hazards.
Kilauea Message 2026-04-09 12:52:12 HST
Halemaʻumaʻu north vent lava fountains are now reaching about 190 meters (625 feet) above ground, and the volcanic plume is reaching 15,000 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level, blowing to the north and north-northeast directions.
Kilauea Message 2026-04-09 11:36:36 HST
Lava fountains at the north vent in Halemaʻumaʻu are currently reaching about 35 meters (115 feet) in height, and they can be expected to reach maximum heights in 1–2 hours.
Kilauea Message 2026-04-09 11:24:37 HST
Halemaʻumaʻu lava fountaining episode 44 began at 11:10 a.m. HST. Winds are blowing from the south, which suggests that volcanic gas emissions and tephra may be distributed to the north.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2026-04-09 11:24:23 HST
Episode 44 began at approximately 11:10. VAN/VONA has been issued. Lava fountains from the north vent are currently under 300 feet high and growing. Downwind gas emissions and tephra fall are the primary hazards.
Kilauea Message 2026-04-09 08:59:04 HST
Strong dome fountains have begun erupting from the north vent in Halemaʻumaʻu crater, feeding lava flows on the western crater floor.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2026-04-09 08:56:02 HST
Episode 44 lava fountains likely to begin between now and April 15. Intermittent overflows and dome fountains are now erupting from both north and south vents.
Kilauea Message 2026-04-08 19:29:04 HST
The vigor of dome fountains and lava overflows from the Halemaʻumaʻu south vent has increased over the past several hours. Gradual inflationary tilt and low-level seismic tremor continue at Kīlauea summit presently.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2026-04-08 11:28:29 HST
The HVO webpage may be offline due to USGS website maintenance starting at 2:00 p.m. HST, with the work lasting ~8 hours. Updates on volcanic activity will still be issued via Volcano Notification Service emails.
Kilauea Message 2026-04-08 11:16:42 HST
Heavy rain and thick fog are currently obscuring HVO webcam views of Halemaʻumaʻu crater, but our scientists are keeping watch for a potential 44th lava fountaining episode via seismic data streams and weather radar feeds.
Kilauea Message 2026-04-08 08:50:27 HST
UWD tiltmeter has tracked summit inflation since yesterday afternoon, while data from the SMC instrument has been affected by rain. Based on the renewed inflation, the forecast for lava fountaining episode 44 remains from now to April 15.
