The 3rd precursory north vent flow lasted from 5:56 to 6:05 pm HST. Inflation slowed since the 2nd overflow at 4:41 pm HST. Lava has been spattering in the south vent. The onset of episode 42 fountains is expected Sunday or Monday.

Precursory dome fountaining from the north vent overflowed at 4:41 pm HST sending lava into Halemaʻumaʻu crater. An earlier, much smaller event occurred at 1:05 pm HST but only lasted for one minute.

At 11:37 pm HST on January 26 a magnitude 4.2 earthquake 20.7 miles (33.3 km) deep occurred 1.2 miles (2 km) northwest of Pahala, felt by over 215 people as of 12:10 am. No damage expected.

Episode 41 ended abruptly at 7:29 pm. North vent fountaining ended at 7:26 pm, and south vent followed suit 3 minutes later. Tephra fall may continue for several hours as ash settles out of the atmosphere.

Both north and south vent fountains remain 500-650 feet (150-200 meters) high. Light tephra continues to fall around the summit of Kīlauea. Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense reports that Highway 11 is reopened.

Episode 41 started at 11:10 a.m. As of 11:50 a.m., both north and south vents are over 250 m (820 feet) high, and the summit tilt on UWD has already recorded 3.5 microradians of deflation.
