A brand new streaming video cam, the V3 camera is streaming from the south rim of Halema'uma'u. Thanks to the HVO tech and camera teams and the National Park Service for making this happen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqmpkUdMtyA

Fountains from the north vent reached a maximum of 1000 feet around 6 am HST. Since that time fountain heights have dropped, varying between 300 and 500 feet high. Gas plume reaches 5,000-10,000 feet and is moving away from populated areas.

The transition to episode 22 high fountains occured at 5:13 am HST when fountain height and tremor increased along with the onset of rapid deflation. Current fountains are sustained 650 feet (200 meters) with peak of 800 feet (250 meters).

Episode 22 of the ongoing Halema'uma'u eruption began at 4:45 am HST when lava from low dome fountains overflowed the north vent. The fountains continued to grow over the next half hour to over 500 feet high (150 meters).
Kilauea Message 2025-05-11 13:32:15 HST
Fountains from the north vent are currently over 500 feet high and feeding large flows across the floor of Halema'uma'u crater.

Episode 21 fountaining began at 12:45 pm HST from the north vent. Current fountains are 125-150 feet high and slowing increasing. Lava flows are spreading across the floor of Halema'uma'u crater.

Precursory gas-pistoning cycles of low dome fountains and ponding of lava followed by drainback are continuing every half hour since 8:00 am HST. Small lava flows occurred during some of the cycles. Episode 21 fountains are expected today.

Dome fountaining and filling of the north vent began again just before 9:00 am HST. This is the third gas-piston cycle (30 minutes apart) marked by low dome fountains, lava filling the north vent, an increase in tremor, and drainback.
Kilauea Message 2025-05-11 08:50:15 HST
The dome fountains were associated with two 5-10 minute periods of gas-pistoning associated with elevated tremor. The first began at 8 am HST and the second at 8:30 am HST. The start of major fountaining is likely to begin later today.

Intermittent, small dome fountains (15-30 feet) began around 8 am HST in the north vent. The fountains are larger than the sporadic spattering that was seen overnight with the hydrogen flames. Lava is pooling in the north vent.

Prominent flames and intermittent spatter have been visible in the north vent since dark around 7:00 pm HST. Flames were also seen prior to episode 19 and in January. Yellowish flames in volcanic vents are due to burning of hydrogen gas.
