Kilauea Message 2025-04-08 16:32:44 HST
Episode 17 continues sustained 100 foot (30 meter) high fountaining with bursts up to 200 feet (60 meters) from the south vent. Surges and standing waves are visible in the outlet channel feeding the flow on the floor of Halema'uma'u.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-08 03:22:39 HST
Low spatter fountains from the south vent have been increasing from initial heights of 15-30 feet to 30-60 feet by 3:00 am HST on April 8. Tremor continues to gradually increase as well and is accompanied by slow deflation of the summit.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-08 02:07:11 HST
Episode 17 of the ongoing Halema'uma'u eruption began just before 10:15 pm HST on April 7 after about 45 minutes of increased glow. This is the onset of continuous effusion that has preceded several of the high fountaining episodes.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-02 12:08:33 HST
Episode 16 stopped erupting from the south vent at 12:03 pm HST on April 2 after about 36 hours of activity .
Kilauea Message 2025-04-02 10:05:45 HST
Fountains from the south vent began dropping around 9:50 am HST April 2 from 500-600 feet to 100-300 feet. Episode 16 appears to be winding down at this time.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-01 19:25:32 HST
The south vent has had sustained fountains of 600-700 feet for over 8 hours. If deflation patterns observed in previous episodes repeat, high fountains should last to at least 10:00 pm HST tonight. Enjoy episode 16!
Kilauea Message 2025-04-01 12:38:11 HST
High fountains from the south vent have been varied from 500-700 feet since 11:00 a.m. HST. Light winds are blowing hot pumice, ash, and Pele's hair to the northwest of Kaluapele. Most pumice fall is confined to the closed area of HVNP.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-01 10:33:28 HST
High fountaining began from the south vent at 10:24 am HST on April 1. The change was preceded by about 5 minutes of steadily increasing vigor. South vent fountains are currently about 200 feet (70 meters) high. No change at north vent.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-01 10:24:30 HST
Fountaining from the south vent increased significantly and started producing lava flows at 10:12 am HST on April 1. Both vents are fountaining vigorously and tremor is increasing. Appear to be approaching the transition to high fountains.
Kilauea Message 2025-04-01 07:11:39 HST
Volcanoes in both Hawaiʻi and Iceland, the Earth's two largest hotspots, are erupting today. Happy April Fools Day! And they actually are erupting, no fooling!
