Kilauea Message 2025-04-21 21:25:06 HST
Both the south and north vents are glowing strongly at 9:20 pm HST on April 21. Some minor spatter bursts seen at the north vent and possibly at the south vent in the past hour.

Lava stopped erupting from the south vent at 12:44 pm HST ending the fourth cycle today. The length of the eruptive cycles continues to get shorter and the pauses in between them continue to increase in duration.

Degassed lava began erupting again from the south vent at 12:22 p.m. HST and is refilling the channel from the earlier flows.

Eruption of lava from the south vent slowed starting at 11:12 am HST as lava in the vent gas-pistoned every 3 to 5 minutes. Overall eruptive activity declined and stopped, and the episode remains paused at 11:45 am HST.

Eruptive activity began diminishing again around 10:30 am HST and lava flows and fountaining stopped as tremor decreased. Eruptive activity resumed at about 10:50 am HST with lava flows fed by a 15 foot high dome fountain.

Episode 18 restarted at 7:45 a.m. HST today, the first day of the Merry Monarch Hula Festival. Low fountains (10-20 feet) and eruption of degassed lava continue. Stronger fountains could begin at any time.

Small fountains are feeding a lava flow from south vent just after 8:20 am HST. Start of episode 18 fountains is expected soon.

Eruption of lava from the north vent that began at 10:01 pm HST ended at 11:21 pm HST last night. The summit continued to inflate throughout this precursory activity. Episode 18 fountains may start as late as Saturday or Sunday.

Episode 18 began at 10:01 pm HST when lava overflowed the north vent.

Spatter bursts increased in intensity until 9:30 pm HST when continuous 10-15 foot high dome fountains and increased tremor began. By 9:45 pm HST ponded lava in the north vent was visible.
