Occasional spatter from the north vent has been visible since this morning, February 10. Inflation continues at the summit and glow intensified last night, indicating that the magma column is rising within the vent.

Episode 8 of the eruption of Halema'uma'u ended at 7:23 pm HST on February 4. The eruption began the previous night and lasted for about 21.5 hours. The north vent stopped erupting at about 7:05 followed by the south vent at 7:23 pm HST.

Episode 8 of the Halema'uma'u eruption began at 9:52 pm HST. Fountaining from the north vent rapidly increased to 50-80 feet high and is feeding a flow that is spreading rapidly on the crater floor.

Sporadic fountaining from the north vent began just around 7:15 pm HST on February 2. Spattering increased between 8:15 and 9:00 pm HST when steam obscured the vent. Inflation remains at the minimum needed for the start of a new episode.

Episode 7 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption abruptly stopped this morning January 28 at 10:47 am HST. Fountains from the south vent stopped at 10:43 followed by shutdown of the north vent at 10:47. Episode 7 lasted just over 16 hours.

Lava fountains 80-120 feet high continue from both the north and south vents within Halemaʻumaʻu crater this morning at 5:40 am HST January 28. Lava flows fed by the fountains cover more than half of Halemaʻumaʻu crater floor.

Fountains from the north vent are 100-120 feet high and feeding multiple lava streams at 7:40 pm HST January 27. A small fountain can be seen in the south vent and there is a small lava flow emerging from the south side of its cone.

Fountains from the episode 7 eruption that began at 6:41 p.m. January 27 are 60-100 feet high and are feeding a lava fountain onto the floor of Halemaʻumaʻu crater.

Episode 7 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption began at 6:42 pm HST on January 27 and is currently feeding a small flow onto the crater floor. Lava fountains are 10-20 ft high and eruption is likely to last 10-20 hours.

Lava fountains and flows of episode 6 stopped at 12:36 p.m. HST on January 25. Tremor began to decline and deflation of the summit ended about 30 minutes earlier, around 12:00 p.m. HST.

Episode 6 of the Halemaʻumaʻu eruption continues at 8:15 a.m. HST this morning, January 25. Fountain heights are down to 50-100 ft from the maximum of more than 150 ft. The second lava channel stopped around 3:30 a.m. HST.
