The data connection was restored around 12:25 AM HST. Data is currently being downloaded from instruments and backfilling the earlier data gaps
Kilauea Message 2025-07-26 00:10:14 HST
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is currently experiencing a loss of data connection to most of the seismic/deformation monitoring network that began at 8:33 PM HST. The problem is being addressed and will hopefully be resolved overnight.

Glow will persist across the vent area and Halema'uma'u crater floor tonight due to continued creep of molten material. Small collapses of partly molten material can feed small lava flows through the night.

Episode 29 ended at 6:35 PM after just over 13 hours of fountaining and 14 hours of eruption. Deflation was 18.5 microradians and produced about 9 million cubic yards (7 million cubic meters) of lava that covered over 80% of Halema'uma'u.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 11:28:54 HST
By 11:15 AM, after 6 hours of continuous episode 29 lava fountaining, UWD tiltmeter had recorded 10.8 microradians of deflation. During the past three eruptive episodes, UWD recorded 15.0, 16.3, and 18.5 microradians of deflation.

Episode 29 is certainly different. The "nozzle" like shape of the vent exit has broken down allowing lava to spray in multiple directions and preventing the fountains from growing higher. Deflation has exceeded 7 microradians.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 08:31:46 HST
Though the north vent has been the primary host of episode 29 activity, the south vent has been spattering since about 6:05 AM; it last erupted in episode 27 and was completely absent from episode 28.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 05:40:33 HST
Episode 29 fountains are currently erupting more sideways than vertically, creating an arcing fountain from the north vent.Flows have covered an estimated 5-10% of the floor of Halema'uma'u crater at this time.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 05:24:15 HST
Episode 29 transitioned to high fountains at approximately 5:15 AM. Fountains transitioned from dome fountains less than 100 feet high to more vertical fountains over 200 feet high accompanied by increased tremor and deflation rates.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 04:39:23 HST
Precursory spattering began at 3:55 AM followed by lava overflowing the vent at 4:11 AM. Vigorous low fountains and lava flows continue at this time. TEpisode 29 high fountains are expected today, likely within a few hours or less.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-18 20:30:34 HST
Moderate glow has returned to the north vent tonight suggesting the plug may be breaking down. The cracks in the cone just above the vent also continue to glow. Tremor levels remain low but elevated and slow inflation continues.
