Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Water stargrass biomass, stream metabolism estimates, and nutrient data quality control data for the lower Yakima River: June 2018 through September 2020 (ver. 2.0, August 2025) Water stargrass biomass, stream metabolism estimates, and nutrient data quality control data for the lower Yakima River: June 2018 through September 2020 (ver. 2.0, August 2025)

This dataset provides information collected at three stream monitoring sites on the lower Yakima River in Washington State from June 2018 through September 2020 by the U.S. Geological Survey. Sample locations included the Yakima River at Prosser, WA (USGS Station, 12509489), the Yakima River at Kiona, WA (USGS Station, 12510500), and the Yakima River at Van Giesen bridge near Richland...

Mercury in soil, water, sediment, and biota in headwater streams associated with wildfires in the northwestern U.S., 2021-2022 Mercury in soil, water, sediment, and biota in headwater streams associated with wildfires in the northwestern U.S., 2021-2022

Comma-separated values (.csv) files containing data related to mercury in soil, water, sediment, in-stream leaf litter, periphyton, and aquatic invertebrates collected in 2021-2022 from headwater streams associated with wildfires in the northwestern U.S.

Formation and Evolution of the Pacific-North American (San Andreas) Plate Boundary: Constraints from the Crustal Architecture of Northern California Formation and Evolution of the Pacific-North American (San Andreas) Plate Boundary: Constraints from the Crustal Architecture of Northern California

This data release provides documentation on the input and output files used in a seismotectonic study of northern California (see reference below). Files contained in the data release include the station, location and arrivaltime input files to the tomography code and the output relocations and resulting P- and S-wave images. Note that we did not use the S-wave imaging results in the...

Attribution of benthic macroinvertebrate sampling data to NHDPlus V2 and NHDPlus HR catchments within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Attribution of benthic macroinvertebrate sampling data to NHDPlus V2 and NHDPlus HR catchments within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed

This data release links benthic macroinvertebrate sites to both the NHDPlus Version 2 and NHDPlus High Resolution Region 02 networks, hereafter referred to as V2 and HR, using the hydrolink methodology. Linked benthic macroinvertebrate sites are those included in the Chesapeake Bay Basin-wide Index of Biotic Integrity (Chessie BIBI) developed by the Interstate Commission on the Potomac...

Capture-recapture data for a restored population of Blue Ridge sculpin (Cottus caeruleomentum) with environmental covariates Capture-recapture data for a restored population of Blue Ridge sculpin (Cottus caeruleomentum) with environmental covariates

This dataset includes spatial capture-recapture data for a restored population of Blue Ridge sculpin (Cottus caeruleomentum) with stream temperature and stream flow observations in Big Hunting Creek, Maryland.

Imagery, photogrammetry, and meteorological data from December 2022 to April 2023, Grand Falls Dune Field, Arizona Imagery, photogrammetry, and meteorological data from December 2022 to April 2023, Grand Falls Dune Field, Arizona

Our goal for this work is to place better constraints on aeolian atmospheric-surface interactions through long-term monitoring of an active, bi-modal dune field located near Grand Falls, Arizona. Grand Falls dune field (GFDF) is located on the Navajo Nation, ~70 km NE of Flagstaff, AZ. This dune field has been monitored since 2013 by the U.S. Geological Survey, and data from each...

Imagery, sediment collection, photogrammetry, and meteorological data from April 2023 to July 2023, Grand Falls Dune Field, Arizona Imagery, sediment collection, photogrammetry, and meteorological data from April 2023 to July 2023, Grand Falls Dune Field, Arizona

Grand Falls dune field (GFDF) is located on the Navajo Nation, ~70 km NE of Flagstaff, AZ. This active dune field displays a range of morphologies, including barchans, smaller dunes, and ripples, and is bimodal in composition. The felsic component is likely derived from the Little Colorado River, and the mafic component (basaltic grains) is locally sourced from nearby cinder cones [1]...

Compilation of runoff-generated debris-flow inventories for 18 fires across Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Washington, USA Compilation of runoff-generated debris-flow inventories for 18 fires across Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Washington, USA

Description This data release is an inventory of runoff-generated postfire debris flows compiled from 18 burn areas across six western U.S. states. Debris-flow data from the following fires are included: Arizona: 2019 Museum, 2021 Flag, and 2022 Pipeline Fires California: 2014 Silverado, 2015 Valley, 2019 Briceburg, 2020 Dolan, 2020 El Dorado, 2020 Lake, and 2021 Dixie Fires Colorado...

Geospatial extent of the study area and additional geospatial buffer for Mobile and Perdido bays contributing watersheds in the southeastern United States Geospatial extent of the study area and additional geospatial buffer for Mobile and Perdido bays contributing watersheds in the southeastern United States

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center (LMGWSC) in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and funded through the Resources and Ecosystems, Sustainability, Tourist, Opportunities, and Revived Economies of the Gulf Coast States Act (RESTORE Act) are conducting a multiyear multistate study to analyze the alteration and trends of...

Model Archive, Input Data, Modeled Estimates of Water Use 2005-2021, and Forecasts of Water Use in 2030 and 2040 in Providence, Rhode Island Model Archive, Input Data, Modeled Estimates of Water Use 2005-2021, and Forecasts of Water Use in 2030 and 2040 in Providence, Rhode Island

A water use study was conducted to understand the drivers of historical water use in the Providence Water Supply Board network (the service area of Providence Water Supply Board and its wholesale customers) and to forecast future water use in the same network. A cubist regression model was developed to model daily per capita water use rates for three water use categories in each of the...

When and where could rising seas cross thresholds for initiating wetland drowning across conterminous United States? When and where could rising seas cross thresholds for initiating wetland drowning across conterminous United States?

Recent data syntheses have clarified future relative sea-level rise exposure and sensitivity thresholds for drowning. We integrated these advances to estimate when and where rising sea levels could cross thresholds for initiating wetland drowning across the conterminous United States. We evaluated three sea-level rise thresholds for wetland drowning (4, 7, and 10 mm/yr). Our study area...
