Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

USGS National Shoreline Change - 2017 lidar-derived mean high water shoreline and associated shoreline change data for coastal North Carolina USGS National Shoreline Change - 2017 lidar-derived mean high water shoreline and associated shoreline change data for coastal North Carolina

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has compiled national shoreline data for more than 20 years to document coastal change and serve the needs of research, management, and the public. Maintaining a record of historical shoreline positions is an effective method to monitor national shoreline evolution over time, enabling scientists to identify areas most susceptible to erosion or accretion...

Plant and insect pollinator diversity data from Conservation Reserve Program fields across an agricultural gradient in eastern Iowa Plant and insect pollinator diversity data from Conservation Reserve Program fields across an agricultural gradient in eastern Iowa

This data release includes sampling location identification and timing data as well as plant and insect pollinator taxonomic information in Conservation Reserve Program fields. Sampling took place during July and August of 2019. Fields were located on private land managed for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Conservation Reserve Program in eastern central Iowa, U.S.A.

Impact of suspended sediments/soils to juvenile mussels Impact of suspended sediments/soils to juvenile mussels

This data release includes physical and chemical characteristics of field collected sediment and soil samples in Missouri representing potential sediment/soil that may enter the water column during construction related activities. Three samples were collected, including Spring River sediment, Osage River bank soil and Columbia crushed limestone. The impacts of increased suspended solid...

Velocity Survey at Cross Sections in the Illinois River below Starved Rock Lock and Dam near Utica, Illinois, June 16, 2021 Velocity Survey at Cross Sections in the Illinois River below Starved Rock Lock and Dam near Utica, Illinois, June 16, 2021

In support of U.S. Geological Survey invasive carp research examining aggregations of invasive carp in the tail water of dams, water velocity measurements were made at cross sections in the Illinois River below Starved Rock Lock and Dam on June 16, 2021. A total of 16 cross sections were surveyed, with two transects per cross section. Water depth and crew safety limited the extent of the...

Population Viability Model for Spot-tailed earless lizard Population Viability Model for Spot-tailed earless lizard

Code for simulating Spot-tailed earless lizard populations under habitat loss and road mortality threats in central Texas

Predicting fish responses to climate change using a joint species, spatially dependent physiologically guided abundance model Predicting fish responses to climate change using a joint species, spatially dependent physiologically guided abundance model

Predicting the effects of warming temperatures on the abundance and distribution of organisms under future climate scenarios often requires extrapolating species-environment correlations to thermal conditions not currently experienced by a species or to temperatures that exceed the range of observed data. For poikilotherms, incorporating species’ thermal physiology to inform...

Population genetic structure of white-tailed deer using microsatellites i the Mid-Atalntic region Population genetic structure of white-tailed deer using microsatellites i the Mid-Atalntic region

Results of 11 microsatellites for white-tailed deer collected in Maryland, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia from 2014 to 2022 for genetic analysis. In this project we assessed genetic structure using different analyses, and evaluated the performance of assignment tests to correctly match deer to origin (defined as genetic cluster, state or physiographic province). This...

Estimating High Resolution Multi-Cropped Irrigated Land Use Using a Pesticide Use Reporting Database in California Estimating the amount of water needed for agriculture is vital for food and water security. These estimates rely on maps of crop type and acreage that have limited ground-truthing or represent multiple years or regional cropping patterns. In regions where crops change...

Detections, Physical Captures, Water Quality, and Fish Health Data Related to Suckers Held in Four Net Pens in Upper Klamath Lake, 2019 Detections, Physical Captures, Water Quality, and Fish Health Data Related to Suckers Held in Four Net Pens in Upper Klamath Lake, 2019

To determine how a low cost oxygenation system affected survival of captively reared juvenile suckers, we introduced Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tagged juvenile suckers into three net pens in Upper Klamath Lake. The suckers originated from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Sucker Assisted Rearing Program in Klamath Falls, Oregon which rears suckers collected as larvae in...

Whole genome sequencing of three North American large-bodied birds Whole genome sequencing of three North American large-bodied birds

The data release details the samples, methods, and raw data used to generate high-quality genome assemblies for greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus), white-tailed ptarmigan (Lagopus leucura), and trumpeter swan (Cygnus buccinator). The raw data have been deposited in the Sequence Read Archive (SRA) of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the authoritative...

Pesticide concentration and related water-quality data for selected groundwater sites near areas of agricultural land use in Alabama, 2009-2020 Pesticide concentration and related water-quality data for selected groundwater sites near areas of agricultural land use in Alabama, 2009-2020

Data in this release were collected and computed to evaluate the occurrence of pesticides in shallow groundwater in the state of Alabama. Additionally, these data support interpretation in Gill (2023) for a cooperative project between the U.S. Geological Survey and the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries. During 2009-2020, samples were collected from twenty-four wells...

Digital data from previous USGS hydrogeologic studies of the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer system in the northern Midwest, United States Digital data from previous USGS hydrogeologic studies of the Cambrian-Ordovician aquifer system in the northern Midwest, United States

This dataset captures in digital form previously published maps showing the inferred extent and subsurface elevation of several Paleozoic consolidated rock units in the northern Midwest of the United States. Data released here were published as figures within a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Mission Area report documenting results from a study of the regional hydrogeology and ground...
