Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Landsat 7 Collection 2 cloud truth mask validation set Landsat 7 Collection 2 cloud truth mask validation set

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center in Sioux Falls, SD developed a cloud validation dataset from 48 unique Landsat 7 Collection 2 images. These images were selected at random from the Landsat 7 SLC-On archive from various locations around the world. While these validation images were subjectively designed by a single analyst, they...

Salt marsh monitoring during water years 2013 to 2019, Humboldt Bay, CA – water levels, surface deposition, elevation change, and carbon storage Salt marsh monitoring during water years 2013 to 2019, Humboldt Bay, CA – water levels, surface deposition, elevation change, and carbon storage

This data release includes montorting data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Humboldt Bay Water Quality and Salt Marsh Monitoring Project. The datasets include continuous water levels collected at a 6-minute timestep collected in two study marshes (Mad River and Hookton). Surface deposition, elevation changes and carbon storage (in marsh edge environments) measured in five...

Model predictions of biological condition for small streams in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, USA Model predictions of biological condition for small streams in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, USA

This data release contains predictions of stream biological condition as defined by the Chesapeake basin-wide index of biotic integrity for stream macroinvertebrates (Chessie BIBI) using Random Forest models with landscape data for small streams (≤ 200 km2 in upstream drainage) across the Chesapeake Bay Watershed (CBW). Predictions were made at eight time periods (2001, 2004, 2006, 2008...

Data for assessing the penetration depth post-1950s water in the Central Valley aquifer system, California (July 2022) Data for assessing the penetration depth post-1950s water in the Central Valley aquifer system, California (July 2022)

This dataset provides groundwater ages estimates that were used in an assessment of the penetration depth of modern groundwater in the Central Valley aquifer system (CVAL). Groundwater ages were estimated by calibration of environmental tracers (tritium, tritiogenic helium-3, chlorofluorocarbons, sulfur hexafluoride, carbon-14 and radiogenic helium-4) to lumped parameter models (LPMs)...

Geomorphic metrics across four catchments in Clarksburg, Maryland, 2002-19 Geomorphic metrics across four catchments in Clarksburg, Maryland, 2002-19

This dataset contains geomorphic metrics across 32 cross-sections at four catchments within the Clarksburg Special Protection Area in Montgomery County, Maryland. These data were derived from raw cross-sectional data collected by the Montgomery County, Maryland Department of Environmental Protection. Geomorphic metrics include channel area, bed location, channel depth, channel width, and...

Mainstem Rivers of the World based on MERIT hydrography and Natural Earth names Mainstem Rivers of the World based on MERIT hydrography and Natural Earth names

Mainstem rivers are the backbone of a connected network of hydrologic units that cover the landscape. A mainstem connects a headwater source area to an outlet. This data release identifies the same mainstem paths in hydrographic datasets for the world based on the MERIT hydrography and the Natural Earth river names. Made with Natural Earth. Free vector and raster map data @...

Data for Models Estimating Baseflow for Streams Containing Endangered Atlantic Salmon in Maine, USA Data for Models Estimating Baseflow for Streams Containing Endangered Atlantic Salmon in Maine, USA

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed a regression model for estimating August mean baseflow per square mile of drainage area to help resource managers assess relative amounts of baseflow in streams with Maine Atlantic Salmon habitat. The model was derived from August mean baseflows computed at 31 USGS streamgages in and near the Gulf of Maine Atlantic Salmon Habitat Recovery Units...

Spatial Hydro-Ecological Decision System Summarized PRISM 30-year Normal Precipitation and Temperature Data for SHEDS Region 2 Spatial Hydro-Ecological Decision System Summarized PRISM 30-year Normal Precipitation and Temperature Data for SHEDS Region 2

This data release is a summarization within the USGS Spatial Hydro-Ecological Decision System (SHEDS) framework of the Oregon State University PRISM Climate Group 30-year normal 800 meter resolution monthly, minimum and maximum temperature data and monthly precipitation data between 1991 and 2020. The output is a table consisting of the summarized values of these continuous variables for...

Data and Model Archive for Preliminary Machine Learning Models of Manganese and 1,4-Dioxane in Groundwater on Long Island, New York Data and Model Archive for Preliminary Machine Learning Models of Manganese and 1,4-Dioxane in Groundwater on Long Island, New York

Data and preliminary machine-learning models used to predict manganese and 1,4-dioxane in groundwater on Long Island are documented in this data release. Concentration data used to develop the models were from 910 wells for manganese and 553 wells for 1,4-dioxane, primarily public supply wells, from U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), and Suffolk County...

Total and Dissolved Organic Carbon Data to Support Implementation of Revised Freshwater Aluminum Water-Quality Criteria in Massachusetts Total and Dissolved Organic Carbon Data to Support Implementation of Revised Freshwater Aluminum Water-Quality Criteria in Massachusetts

This data set contains historical data on concentrations of total and dissolved organic carbon in Massachusetts streams from the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System (NWIS) database. The data were compiled from NWIS using site and sample selection criteria to retrieve all publicly available data from surface-water samples that contained analysis of both total and...

An Updated Vs30 Map for California with Geologic and Topographic Constraints An Updated Vs30 Map for California with Geologic and Topographic Constraints

This data release provides a map of the time-averaged shear-wave velocity in the upper 30 m (Vs30) for California using the method described by Thompson and others (2014). There are two adjustments to the algorithm described by Thompson and others (2014), which is built on the geology-based Vs30 map by Wills and Clahan (2006). In this data release, we use the Wills and others (2015)...

Indicators of Hydrologic Alteration in North Carolina Catchments: Small Ponds and Artificial Drainage Indicators of Hydrologic Alteration in North Carolina Catchments: Small Ponds and Artificial Drainage

Alterations to stream hydrology, which include changes in stream geomorphology, are primary impacts of anthropogenic disruption. In North Carolina, hydrological alterations lead to environmental impacts through degraded ecosystems and water quality. In collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Mitigation Services (DMS), the USGS South Atlantic...
