Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Geochemical data generated by projects funded by the USGS Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (ver. 12.0, December 2025) Geochemical data generated by projects funded by the USGS Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (ver. 12.0, December 2025)

The geochemical data included here were generated as part of the Earth Mapping Resources Initiative (Earth MRI), which was developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in response to a Federal directive calling on various Federal agencies to address potential vulnerabilities in the Nation’s supply of critical mineral resources. Earth MRI is a partnership between the USGS, State...

Water temperature data in the Milwaukee Estuary of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin Water temperature data in the Milwaukee Estuary of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin

This dataset contains water temperature data collected by boat tow on August 30, 2019 between approximately 8:00 AM and 12:15 PM Central Standard Time (CST) in the Milwaukee Estuary of Lake Michigan. The data includes measured water temperatures, depth of collection, water column depth, time of collection, and geospatial coordinates. The objective of this data collection was to produce

Controlled source audio-frequency magnetotellurics (CSAMT) data from the Sevier fault near Red Knoll, Kane County, Utah Controlled source audio-frequency magnetotellurics (CSAMT) data from the Sevier fault near Red Knoll, Kane County, Utah

Controlled source audio-frequency magnetotellurics (CSAMT) data were collected over the Sevier fault, near Red Knoll in Kane county Utah, to better understand the hydrogeology of the area. CSAMT data provide vertical cross-section (profile) data about the resistivity of the subsurface, which may be related to lithologic boundaries and (or) grain-size distribution in the subsurface. CSAMT...

Tracking Data for Long-tailed Ducks (Clangula hyemalis) Tracking Data for Long-tailed Ducks (Clangula hyemalis)

This data release includes 2 child items with tracking data for Long-tailed Ducks, a species of seaduck that breeds throughout the circumpolar Arctic and spends the winter in coastal areas of northern and mid latitudes. Child Item 1: "Argos Satellite Tracking Data for Long-tailed Ducks (Clangula hyemalis) - Processed Data" -- Quality-controlled data collected from Argos satellite...

Digital Imagery Used for Aerial Counts for Surface-Nesting Seabirds at Lehua Island and Moku Manu Islet and Ulupa'u Crater, O'ahu in 2019 Digital Imagery Used for Aerial Counts for Surface-Nesting Seabirds at Lehua Island and Moku Manu Islet and Ulupa'u Crater, O'ahu in 2019

This data release is a product of Atlas of Breeding Seabirds of the Main Hawaiian Islands (https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/5fc0045cd34e4b9faad7ef37). Specific results and details about methods and additional information useful for interpreting these data can be found in the data series report: Adams, J., Kelsey, E.C., Stenske, J., and Felis, J.J., 2022, Aerial counts for surface...

Data on how Lepidium draba responds to damage of clones Data on how Lepidium draba responds to damage of clones

A greenhouse experiment was conducted to test the ability of the invasive clonal plant, Lepidium draba, to cope with damage to local and different ramets. The experiment was arranged in a fully factorial split-pot design that was blocked by bench position and provenance population of the plant. Plants were grown in 'split pots', where two adjoining pots were glued together with a small...

Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in Sacramento Valley Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2021 Estimated crop irrigation water use withdrawals in Sacramento Valley Groundwater Basin, Arizona for 2021

Observations of irrigated agricultural land within the Sacramento Valley Groundwater Basin in Arizona. Crops were verified in situ once in 2021 on May 21st; based on digitized field boundaries. Field boundaries were digitized from U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Imagery Program images dated 2021 and supplemented with Landsat and Sentinel2 imagery collections...

Heat flow maps and supporting data for the Great Basin, USA Heat flow maps and supporting data for the Great Basin, USA

Geothermal well data from Southern Methodist University (SMU, 2021) and the U.S. Geological Survey (Sass et al., 2005) were used to create maps of estimated background conductive heat flow across the greater Great Basin region of the western US. The heat flow maps in this data release were created using a process that sought to remove hydrothermal convective influence from predictions of

Water Budget of the Sierra Vista Subwatershed of the Upper San Pedro Basin, 2002 - 2012 and 2020 Water Budget of the Sierra Vista Subwatershed of the Upper San Pedro Basin, 2002 - 2012 and 2020

Groundwater budgets were compiled from 2002 to 2012 and 2020 for the Sierra Vista Subwatershed for the Upper San Pedro Partnership. In 2012, the annual groundwater budget was estimated to be about -5,000 acre-ft per year (negative values indicate a deficit, where more water is removed from the system than is being returned; positive values indicate a surplus, where more water is entering...

Data Files for USGS Response to Hurricane Maria Flooding in Puerto Rico and Characterization of Peak Streamflows Observed September 20-22, 2017 Data Files for USGS Response to Hurricane Maria Flooding in Puerto Rico and Characterization of Peak Streamflows Observed September 20-22, 2017

This data release provides topographic (horizontal and vertical) data for 78 sites, surveyed from November 2017 to July 2019 as part of documentation of flooding that occurred in Puerto Rico during and after Hurricane Maria (September to November 2017). Hurricane Maria made landfall the Island of Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017 and was one of the deadliest storms in U.S. history. The U...

Modeling impacts of drought-induced salinity intrusion on carbon fluxes and storage in tidal freshwater forested wetlands Modeling impacts of drought-induced salinity intrusion on carbon fluxes and storage in tidal freshwater forested wetlands

A biogeochemistry model was developed to examine plant gross primary productivity (GPP), net primary productivity (NPP), plant respiration, soil respiration, soil organic carbon sequestration rate and storage under scenarios of drought and normal conditions at Tidal Freshwater Forested Wetlands (TFFW) sites along the Waccamaw River and Savannah River in the Southeastern United States.

February 2020 National Wetlands Inventory, Mississippi Barrier Islands Habitat Classification: (Cat Island, Ship Island, Petit Bois Island and Horn Island) February 2020 National Wetlands Inventory, Mississippi Barrier Islands Habitat Classification: (Cat Island, Ship Island, Petit Bois Island and Horn Island)

This data set consists of digital data describing wetlands and uplands habitats for the Mississippi Coastal Improvements Program (MsCIP) area, consisting of Cat, Ship, Horn and Petit Bois Islands for the year 2020. Wetlands were classified using the Cowardin, et al., wetlands classification scheme to the level of freshwater and tidal, salinity modifiers. Uplands were classified using a...
