Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Hard shoreline structure inventory for states along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts Hard shoreline structure inventory for states along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts

To support the development of more accurate hurricane coastal impact models, we created a dataset containing an inventory of information sources of hard shoreline structures — including seawalls, groins, bulkheads, and breakwaters — for each U.S. state along the Gulf of America and Atlantic coasts. The shoreline structure inventory was developed initially from internet searches of open...

Hydrodynamic and sediment transport data from Gull Island, New Jersey, 2021-2022 Hydrodynamic and sediment transport data from Gull Island, New Jersey, 2021-2022

The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, in collaboration with the U.S. Geological Survey Wetland and Aquatic Research Center, collected hydrographic data to investigate sediment exchange between a back barrier marsh and open embayment through a tidal creek near Avalon, NJ, between July 2021 and August 2022. Data collected include time-series measurements of current...

Borehole information from the lower Colorado River corridor, Arizona, Nevada, and California Borehole information from the lower Colorado River corridor, Arizona, Nevada, and California

This data release provides location information and lithologic intervals for boreholes compiled by the USGS between 2016 and 2020 for use during subsurface geologic mapping of the lower Colorado River corridor. The data provided include a spreadsheet of borehole information, that contains the well name, the information source, and positional information regarding the well location. A...

Carbon and oxygen isotope composition, geochemistry, and petrography of carbonate minerals in the Mountain Pass carbonatite (ver. 1.1, February 2026) Carbon and oxygen isotope composition, geochemistry, and petrography of carbonate minerals in the Mountain Pass carbonatite (ver. 1.1, February 2026)

This data release contains in situ carbon and oxygen isotope analyses of calcite and dolomite collected via secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), as well as major and trace element geochemical data, bulk mineral carbon and oxygen isotope data, and whole rock geochemistry for the samples included in this study. Also included are images from analyzed thin sections that show the sample...

Carolina northern flying squirrel presence and pseudo-absence points in the Southern Appalachian red spruce-Fraser fir sky islands Carolina northern flying squirrel presence and pseudo-absence points in the Southern Appalachian red spruce-Fraser fir sky islands

Carolina northern flying squirrel presence and pseudo-absence points for eight high elevation North Carolina, Tennesse, and Virginia red spruce-Fraser fir forests. Data includes corresponding habitat variables (distance to spruce-fir forest, northern red oak forest, northern hardwood forest, open areas) and topographic variables (elevation, topographic exposure index, aspect), latitude...

Georectified mosaic of historical aerial photographs of the Colorado River in Palo Verde Valley, Arizona and California, acquired in 1930 Georectified mosaic of historical aerial photographs of the Colorado River in Palo Verde Valley, Arizona and California, acquired in 1930

This product is a georectified and tonally balanced mosaic of aerial photographs collected in 1930 by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation along a portion of the floodplain of the Colorado River in Palo Verde Valley, Arizona and California. This dataset is a primary resource for the development of a surficial geologic map showing the floodplain and river channel characteristics along the...

Point locations for rare earth element leachate collection and precipitation tanks from ion-adsorption clay deposits in Burma (Myanmar) and China identified from satellite imagery between 2010 and 2025 Point locations for rare earth element leachate collection and precipitation tanks from ion-adsorption clay deposits in Burma (Myanmar) and China identified from satellite imagery between 2010 and 2025

Rare earth elements are critical mineral commodities typically extracted together as a group of 15 elements (lanthanides plus yttrium) from either 1) hard rock ores or 2) ion-adsorption clay deposits. The locations of hard rock mines targeting carbonatite and peralkaline magmatic rare earth deposits are well constrained and typically mined using conventional open-pit or underground...

Sulfur isotopes and geochemistry of sulfate and sulfide minerals in the Mountain Pass Intrusive Suite, 2025 Sulfur isotopes and geochemistry of sulfate and sulfide minerals in the Mountain Pass Intrusive Suite, 2025

Sulfur minerals, including sulfates (barite, celestine) and sulfides (pyrite, galena, chalcopyrite) are common throughout the Mountain Pass carbonatite. Changes in the sulfur isotope chemistry of sulfate and sulfide minerals record changes in temperature and oxygen fugacity in the system from which they precipitate, and early primary sulfate and/or sulfide minerals may record the primary...

Tracking Data for Caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti) Tracking Data for Caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti)

This data release includes 3 child items with tracking data for caribou, a terrestrial mammal that ranges between the Alaska and Canada. Child Item 1: "GPS Tracking Data for Caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti) from the Denali Herd, Alaska, 2010-2018" Child Item 2: "GPS Tracking Data for Caribou (Rangifer tarandus granti) from the Fortymile Herd, Alaska, 1998-1999" Child Item 3: "GPS...

California Agricultural Land Use Estimates Derived from Pesticide Use Reporting Data California Agricultural Land Use Estimates Derived from Pesticide Use Reporting Data

Agricultural land use estimates are vital to understanding agricultural production, economic contributions, and water demands. A method to estimate spatially and temporally distributed agricultural land use was developed for California. Pesticide application records were processed to develop annual statewide estimates of agricultural land use at approximately 1-square mile resolution...

Low-Flow Statistic Equations and Supplementary Data for Massachusetts Low-Flow Statistic Equations and Supplementary Data for Massachusetts

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Office of Water Resources, developed regional regression equations for estimating selected low-flow statistics in Massachusetts. This data release contains the datasets used in the regression analyses for the regional low-flow equations for the mainland area of...

Aerial Imagery and Structure-from-Motion Derived Data Products from an Aerial Digital Photographic Survey of 10 Islands in the Oregon Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex, OR, USA Aerial Imagery and Structure-from-Motion Derived Data Products from an Aerial Digital Photographic Survey of 10 Islands in the Oregon Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex, OR, USA

This release presents hi-resolution structure-from-motion (SfM) habitat imagery suitable for GIS. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has developed SfM to become a low-cost technique for coastal change assessments. The software uses a combination of camera locations and ground control points to produce digital surface models (DSMs) and orthorectified imagery products. SfM products include...
