Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Geochemical data for ultramafic rocks and sulfide minerals from the disrupted lower stratigraphy of the Stillwater Complex, USA Geochemical data for ultramafic rocks and sulfide minerals from the disrupted lower stratigraphy of the Stillwater Complex, USA

The layered mafic and ultramafic Stillwater Complex in southwest Montana is known for its platinum-group element (PGE) production from reef-style mineralization (J-M Reef) in the Lower Banded series. Rocks near the base of the complex—the Basal series and Ultramafic series, Peridotite zone—also host elevated concentrations of Ni, Cu, Co, Cr, and PGE. These rocks of the complex’s lower...

CoSMoS-AK Modeled flood and erosion hazards at Elim - Coastal Alaska CoSMoS-AK Modeled flood and erosion hazards at Elim - Coastal Alaska

This data release consists of flood hazard maps from compound coastal hazards--specifically sea-level rise (SLR) and projected coastal storms. Products include projected flood depths, flood extents including uncertainties, water elevations, wave heights, velocity hazards, and erosion and sedimentation patterns. These are generated using a suite of numerical models driven by outputs from...

MODPATH model to simulate backward particle tracking in groundwater near Puget Sound, Pierce County, Washington MODPATH model to simulate backward particle tracking in groundwater near Puget Sound, Pierce County, Washington

Backward particle tracking in groundwater was simulated with MODPATH and the MODFLOW groundwater flow model by Long and others (2024). Simulated particles were tracked backward from well intakes in areas within or near Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) for the purpose of determining their likely points of origin within groundwater recharge areas. Steady-state and transient simulations were...

Vertical Control GNSS and leveling data collected across five Texas coastal National Wildlife Refuges, 2024 Vertical Control GNSS and leveling data collected across five Texas coastal National Wildlife Refuges, 2024

This data release contains Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) measurements acquired across five Texas coast National Wildlife Refuges in 2024. These data will be used to establish vertical control and tie rod-set elevation table (RSET) data to the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) and National Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). Data from the RSETs will be used to determine...

Airborne Thermal Infrared and True-color Imagery and Longitudinal Profiles of Stream Temperatures, Santiam River Basin, Oregon, August 2000 Airborne Thermal Infrared and True-color Imagery and Longitudinal Profiles of Stream Temperatures, Santiam River Basin, Oregon, August 2000

This dataset includes high-resolution thermal infrared (TIR) and true-color images collected from crewed aircraft and a point shapefile and corresponding comma-delimited tabular data representing the longitudinal spatial patterns of surface water temperature in the surveyed streams in the Santiam River Basin, Oregon. The aerial surveys were contracted through Watershed Sciences, LLC by...

Whole rock geochemical data from Arizona porphyry mineral systems (2024) Whole rock geochemical data from Arizona porphyry mineral systems (2024)

This report includes whole rock geochemical data from a newly collected suite of samples from igneous systems across Arizona. The data release includes samples collected in calendar year 2024 that support an ongoing, multi-year project dedicated to characterizing magmatic porphyry systems toward understanding possible basement influence on porphyry style mineralization. This preliminary...

Luminescence and Radiocarbon data for: Geologic map of the Big Levels Quadrangle, Virginia Luminescence and Radiocarbon data for: Geologic map of the Big Levels Quadrangle, Virginia

At the Rockbridge Stone Products sand and gravel open pit mine along Loves Run, two Optically Stimulated Luminescence samples from an f2 fan deposit yielded dates from ca. 157 to 139 ka (Carter and others, 2017). These two ages were used to define the Pleistocene map units within the quad.

Luminescence and Radiocarbon data for: Geologic Map of the Sparta East, Sparta West, and parts of the Glade Valley and Whitehead 7.5-minute quadrangles, North Carolina and Virginia, and the epicentral area of the August 9, 2020, Mw 5.1 earthquake in Spart Luminescence and Radiocarbon data for: Geologic Map of the Sparta East, Sparta West, and parts of the Glade Valley and Whitehead 7.5-minute quadrangles, North Carolina and Virginia, and the epicentral area of the August 9, 2020, Mw 5.1 earthquake in Spart

New bedrock and surficial geologic mapping in the Blue Ridge of NW NC and SW VA covers the Sparta East, Sparta West, and parts of the Glade Valley and Whitehead 7.5-minute quadrangles and includes the epicentral area of the 9 August 2020 Mw 5.1 earthquake near Sparta, NC. Mapping documented (1) the co-seismic surface rupture from the 2020 earthquake and brittle structures in the bedrock...

Archive of Digitized Analog Boomer Seismic-Reflection Data Collected in 1992 During the ERDA92-3 Survey Along the Texas-Louisiana Border Archive of Digitized Analog Boomer Seismic-Reflection Data Collected in 1992 During the ERDA92-3 Survey Along the Texas-Louisiana Border

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Hazards and Resources Program has actively collected geophysical and sedimentological data in the northern Gulf of America (Gulf of Mexico) for several decades, including shallow subsurface data in the form of high-resolution seismic reflection profiles (HRSP). Prior to the mid-1990s most HRSP data were collected in analog format as...

Oblique aerial photography and videography of the August 10, 2025 Tracy Arm landslide and tsunami, southeast Alaska Oblique aerial photography and videography of the August 10, 2025 Tracy Arm landslide and tsunami, southeast Alaska

On 10 August 2025, a landslide in Tracy Arm, southeast Alaska, approximately 95 km southeast of Juneau, generated a tsunami with regional effects. Because of poor weather, low visibility, and inaccessible conditions in the water, little was immediately known about the landslide or the total extent and magnitude of the tsunami. On Wednesday, 13 August 2025, USGS scientists Cyrus Read and...

Meteorological Data for Grand Falls Dune Field, Arizona from 2009-2014 (ver. 1.1, December 2025) Meteorological Data for Grand Falls Dune Field, Arizona from 2009-2014 (ver. 1.1, December 2025)

Grand Falls Dune Field (GFDF) on the Navajo Nation (70 km NE of Flagstaff, AZ) is an active, bimodal dune system in both grain size and composition. Felsic grains derive from the Little Colorado River, while mafic (basaltic) grains are sourced locally from nearby cinder cones, making GFDF an excellent terrestrial analog for dune fields on Mars, Venus, and Titan. A long‑term...

Inputs and selected outputs used to assess a stream restoration in Flatlick Branch, Fairfax County, Virginia from water year 2008 through 2024 Inputs and selected outputs used to assess a stream restoration in Flatlick Branch, Fairfax County, Virginia from water year 2008 through 2024

Metrics describing watershed hydrology, stream hydraulics, stream geomorphology, physicochemical processes, and aquatic biology were used to assess a 1.72 km reach of stream above the U.S. Geological Surveys (USGS) Flatlick Branch (station ID 01656903) monitoring station restored using natural channel design. The monitoring station has been continually operated since the start of water...
