The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—North Cuba Area: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—North Cuba Area: Assessment Unit Boundaries, Assessment Input Data, and Fact Sheet Data Tables

This data release contains the boundaries of assessment units, assessment input data, and resulting fact sheet data tables for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in the North Cuba area. The assessment unit is the fundamental unit used in the National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The assessment unit...

Spatial distribution of native freshwater mussels across six reaches of the upper Mississippi River, 2006-2019 Spatial distribution of native freshwater mussels across six reaches of the upper Mississippi River, 2006-2019

We conducted large-scale systematic surveys for native mussels across six reaches of the upper Mississippi River. In each reach, divers placed two 0.25 square meter quadrat frames on the river bottom. The duplicate quadrats, which were placed 10 m apart in an upstream to downstream direction, were used to increase the area sampled at each site and increase the effectiveness of this...

Simulation of Groundwater Flow in the Long Island, New York Regional Aquifer System for 2010 Daily Recharge Conditions Simulation of Groundwater Flow in the Long Island, New York Regional Aquifer System for 2010 Daily Recharge Conditions

This model archive documents a transient groundwater-flow model that simulates hydrologic conditions in the Long Island aquifer system for the year 2010, using the U.S. Geological Survey groundwater modeling software MODFLOW 6 (Langevin and others, 2017). The groundwater model is a derivative of the conditioned model documented in Jahn and others (2024), and described in Walter and...

Sediment Data From Surface Samples and Sand Augers Collected in 2023 From the Northern Chandeleur Islands, Louisiana Sediment Data From Surface Samples and Sand Augers Collected in 2023 From the Northern Chandeleur Islands, Louisiana

In 2023, scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (USGS SPCMSC) conducted a sediment sampling survey at the northern Chandeleur Islands, Louisiana. Funded by the Extending Government Funding and Delivering Emergency Assistance Act (Public Law 117-43) enacted on September 30, 2021, these data complement sediment data from samples...

Nuisance algae: Planktonic communities in the Grand Calumet River Area of Concern, Indiana, 2021 Nuisance algae: Planktonic communities in the Grand Calumet River Area of Concern, Indiana, 2021

The data being released were part of a project funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). This study sought to identify the bacterial and planktonic communities (cyanobacteria, eukaryotic algae) potentially contributing to eutrophication within the Grand Calumet River Area of Concern (AOC) in northern Indiana along the southern shore of Lake Michigan. In 2021...

Discharge measurements, air temperature, water temperature, and gage height data for select stream monitoring locations across Pennsylvania and Maryland piedmont mixed agriculture 2023 Discharge measurements, air temperature, water temperature, and gage height data for select stream monitoring locations across Pennsylvania and Maryland piedmont mixed agriculture 2023

As part of a larger study examining stream conditions and the effect of best management practices in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, thirty small streams across the Pennsylvania and Maryland piedmont physiographic province were instrumented and monitored for gage height (water level), water temperature, and air temperature using Onset HOBO sensors from March to September 2023. In addition...

MODFLOW-NWT model used to simulate groundwater availability in the Salt Fork Arkansas River and Chikaskia River alluvial aquifers, northern Oklahoma, 1980–2020 MODFLOW-NWT model used to simulate groundwater availability in the Salt Fork Arkansas River and Chikaskia River alluvial aquifers, northern Oklahoma, 1980–2020

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB), constructed a finite-difference numerical groundwater-flow model of the Salt Fork Arkansas River and Chikaskia River alluvial aquifers by using MODFLOW-2005 with the Newton formulation solver (MODFLOW-NWT). The model included the Chikaskia River alluvial aquifer, which is classified as a...

Model Archive Summary for acoustic derived suspended-fines concentration at 14211720 Willamette River at Portland, OR Model Archive Summary for acoustic derived suspended-fines concentration at 14211720 Willamette River at Portland, OR

This model archive summary describes the development and methods used to derive and compute a suspended-fines ( 0.0625 mm particle size) model at USGS site ID# 14211720, Willamette River at Portland. The suspended-fines equations will be used to create real-time estimates of concentration and load that will help science entities, managers, and others, monitor sediment transport in the...

Model Archive Summary for acoustic derived suspended-sediment concentration at 14211720 Willamette River at Portland, OR (ver. 2.0, May 2025) Model Archive Summary for acoustic derived suspended-sediment concentration at 14211720 Willamette River at Portland, OR (ver. 2.0, May 2025)

This model archive summary describes techniques and methods used to derive and compute a second version of a suspended-sediment model at USGS site14211720, Willamette River at Portland. The created suspended-sediment concentration equations will be used to create real-time estimates of concentration and load which are available through the National Water Information System. The time...

Model Archive Summary for acoustic derived suspended-sand concentration at 14211720 Willamette River at Portland, OR Model Archive Summary for acoustic derived suspended-sand concentration at 14211720 Willamette River at Portland, OR

This model archive summary describes the development and methods used to derive and compute a suspended-sand (> 0.0625 mm particle size) model at USGS site ID# 14211720, Willamette River at Portland. The suspended-sand equations will be used to create real-time estimates of concentration and load that will help science entities, managers, and others, monitor sediment transport in the...

Modeling marsh migration: User needs for decision-making collected in 2021 and 2023 Modeling marsh migration: User needs for decision-making collected in 2021 and 2023

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conducted interviews of professionals who make decisions about marshes during the Salt Marsh Evolution along the South Atlantic Bight project (SAB project) and the Marsh Model Retrospective initiative. During the SAB project, an advisory committee of marsh model users were interviewed in June 2023 about what decisions they make about marshes and how they...

Extreme Flood, Atmospheric River Presence, and Basin Characteristic Data for a Study of Peak Streamflow Special Conditions in Alaska Extreme Flood, Atmospheric River Presence, and Basin Characteristic Data for a Study of Peak Streamflow Special Conditions in Alaska

This data release contains input data and results for an investigation of special conditions for peak streamflow and extreme floods for USGS streamgages in Alaska. Special conditions can include data-collection conditions, basin conditions, flood-generating mechanisms, or other information and can be critical for informing hydrologic analyses such as flood frequency analysis. The dataset...
