Data Releases
The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Nesting Duck Populations in Suisun Marsh, California Nesting Duck Populations in Suisun Marsh, California
This dataset includes apparent nest density (observed nests per hectare of area searched) of mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) and gadwall (Mareca strepera) in Suisun Marsh, California.
Waterbird Nest Abundance in South San Francisco Bay Waterbird Nest Abundance in South San Francisco Bay
This dataset includes nest abundance of American avocets (Recurvirostra americana), black-necked stilts (Himantopus mexicanus), and Forster's terns (Sterna forsteri) in south San Francisco Bay, California by year. It also contains California gull (Larus californicus) hazing research efforts. This dataset was generated from yearly nest monitoring surveys within wetlands in south San...
Habitat Features and Waterbird Abundance and Diversity on Managed Wetlands Enrolled in the California Waterfowl Habitat Program Habitat Features and Waterbird Abundance and Diversity on Managed Wetlands Enrolled in the California Waterfowl Habitat Program
This dataset includes wetland habitat measurements, surrounding land cover metrics, and waterbird abundance and diversity during 240 surveys of 117 individual wetland units enrolled in the California Waterfowl Habitat Program. This dataset was generated from wetland surveys conducted in the Sacramento Valley, San Joaquin Valley, and Suisun Marsh in 2022 and 2023.
Nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended-sediment loads and trends measured at the Chesapeake Bay River Input Monitoring stations: Water years 1985-2024 Nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended-sediment loads and trends measured at the Chesapeake Bay River Input Monitoring stations: Water years 1985-2024
Nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended-sediment loads, and changes in loads, in major rivers across the Chesapeake Bay watershed were calculated using monitoring data from the Chesapeake Bay River Input Monitoring (RIM) Network stations for the period 1985 through 2024. Nutrient and suspended-sediment loads and changes in loads were determined by applying a weighted regression approach...
Landsat Collection 2 temporal cloud truth mask validation set Landsat Collection 2 temporal cloud truth mask validation set
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center in Sioux Falls, SD has developed a cloud validation dataset from Collection 2 images throughout the history of Landsat. Two North American locations with high overlap between WRS-1 and WRS-2 were chosen. For each location, 20 images were selected at random from the Landsat archive, with at least one...
Organic Contaminants at Trespass Cannabis Grows on Federal Land in California, USA Organic Contaminants at Trespass Cannabis Grows on Federal Land in California, USA
Despite the legalization of recreational cannabis in California, illegal cultivation persists, particularly on public lands (trespass grows). These operations often divert water unlawfully and apply unauthorized chemical fertilizers and pesticides. This dataset reports the presence, and in some cases concentrations, of persistent chemicals in soil, water, and sediment in nearby streams...
Guam, brown treesnake and non-target species takes of baits based on the presence of ants, 2020-2024 Guam, brown treesnake and non-target species takes of baits based on the presence of ants, 2020-2024
Toxic baiting is a primary method used to suppress many invasive species, including the brown treesnake (Boiga irregularis) in Guam. Based on limited alternative approaches to assess tool efficacy in snake removal, bait take is often used as a proxy for snake removal, despite evidence that non-targets remove baits in a spatially heterogeneous manner. Using photographic validation, we...
Magnetotelluric sounding data, Rio Grande rift, New Mexico, 1997-2004 Magnetotelluric sounding data, Rio Grande rift, New Mexico, 1997-2004
This data set includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected from 1997 to 2004 in and near the Rio Grande rift, New Mexico. The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies, including audiomagnetotelluric (AMT) surveys, in the Rio Grande rift to improve understanding of the hydrogeology of the Santa Fe Group and the nature of the sedimentary deposits...
Charcoal and soil, water, and reservoir sediment-core chemistry in the North Fork Salmon Creek basin and Conconully Reservoir, Washington, 2022-2023 Charcoal and soil, water, and reservoir sediment-core chemistry in the North Fork Salmon Creek basin and Conconully Reservoir, Washington, 2022-2023
Charcoal counts and soil, water, and reservoir sediment-core geochemistry were characterized eight months after the November 2021 Muckamuck Fire in the North Fork Salmon Creek basin and Conconully Reservoir, Washington, the receiving water body. Parameters include sand-sized charcoal, Cesium-137, excess Lead-210, aqueous and solid-phase elemental chemistry, and polycyclic aromatic...
Wireline geophysical logs, bulk geochemistry, and mineralogical data for the Devonian Marcellus Shale interval in the Enerplus Snow Shoe 4-8HG wellbore and core, Centre County, Pennsylvania Wireline geophysical logs, bulk geochemistry, and mineralogical data for the Devonian Marcellus Shale interval in the Enerplus Snow Shoe 4-8HG wellbore and core, Centre County, Pennsylvania
Geochemical and mineralogical data were collected for samples of the Devonian Marcellus Shale, as well as overlying and underlying units in the Enerplus Snow Shoe 4-8HG core. The data was integrated with well logs in a manuscript that focuses on the estimation of original organic richness (total organic carbon content) in thermally mature petroleum source rocks. This data release...
Submerged Grain Size Maps in the Santiam River Basin, Oregon Submerged Grain Size Maps in the Santiam River Basin, Oregon
The size and distribution of riverbed grain size plays a foundational role in river morphology and ecology. This study (White and others, 2025) quantifies submerged riverbed grain size at high resolution (1 square meter) across 260 kilometers of geomorphically diverse river corridors in the Santiam River Basin, Oregon, by pairing bathymetric lidar point-clouds collected in 2023 with...
