Microbiology of the Utica Shale Microbiology of the Utica Shale
In order to determine the innate microbial community of shale gas reservoirs and how they are impacted by hydraulic fracturing, this study analyzed biomass collected from produced water and rock from hydraulically fractured wells in the Utica Shale. The samples include rock chips from a drill core from one Utica well, produced water from that same Utica well, and produced water from 12...
Pre-rehabilitation Biological Assessment of the Lower Maumee River, Ohio, 2019 Pre-rehabilitation Biological Assessment of the Lower Maumee River, Ohio, 2019
Data are from biological and physical environmental assessments conducted during 2019 in the Maumee River, Ohio. Sites were located from river kilometer 24 to 11. Water quality parameters, fishes, invertebrates, and river channel characteristics were assessed during 2019 from May-September. Previously established standardized sampling methods were used during all assessments.
Amphibian Chytrid Swab Data from Churchill County, Nevada (2019-2021) Amphibian Chytrid Swab Data from Churchill County, Nevada (2019-2021)
This dataset includes results from external skin swabbing of Anaxyrus williamsi and Lithobates catesbeianus to test for the fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis from the Dixie Valley in Churchill County, Nevada, in 2019-2021.
Data on Produced Water Quality and Quantities from Hydraulically Fractured Williston Basin Oil Wells Data on Produced Water Quality and Quantities from Hydraulically Fractured Williston Basin Oil Wells
This dataset contains compositional data on 17 produced water samples from hydraulically fractured unconventional oil wells completed in the Middle Bakken and Three Forks Formations. The oil wells are located in five different wellfields across the Williston Basin. Specific gravity, conductivity, temperature, pH and oxidation-reduction potential for each sample was measured in the field...
Modeled nutrient and sediment concentrations from the Des Plaines River at Route 53 at Joliet, Illinois, based on continuous monitoring from October 1, 2017, through September 30, 2020 Modeled nutrient and sediment concentrations from the Des Plaines River at Route 53 at Joliet, Illinois, based on continuous monitoring from October 1, 2017, through September 30, 2020
During the 2018-20 water years, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, operated a continuous monitoring station on the Des Plaines River at Route 53 at Joliet, Illinois (USGS station 05537980), to better quantify nutrient and sediment loadings from the Greater Chicago Area to the Illinois River. This data release...
Mean squared logarithmic error in daily mean streamflow predictions at GAGES-II reference streamgages Mean squared logarithmic error in daily mean streamflow predictions at GAGES-II reference streamgages
This data release contains daily mean squared logarithmic error (MSLE), as well as several decompositions of the MSLE, for three streamflow models: nearest-neighbor drainage area ratio (NNDAR), a simple statistical model that re-scales streamflow data from the nearest streamgage; the version 3.0 calibration of the National Hydrologic Model Infrastructure application of the Precipitation...
Atomic Force Microscopy-based Infrared Spectroscopy Data within Immature Eagle Ford Shale at the Nanometer-scale Atomic Force Microscopy-based Infrared Spectroscopy Data within Immature Eagle Ford Shale at the Nanometer-scale
The nanoscale molecular composition of kerogen is a challenging parameter to characterize given the chemical and structural complexity exhibited by this important biopolymer. However, kerogen composition will strongly impact its reactivity and so is a critical parameter to understand petroleum generation processes during kerogen catagenesis. The recent advent of tip-enhanced analytical...
Investigating the effects of broad ion beam milling to sedimentary organic matter Investigating the effects of broad ion beam milling to sedimentary organic matter
To test if reflectance increases to sedimentary organic matter (vitrinite) caused by broad ion beam (BIB) milling were related to molecular aromatization and condensation, we used Raman and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopies to evaluate potential compositional changes in the same vitrinite locations pre- and post-BIB milling. The same locations also were examined by atomic...
Data collected to support research on grass crop growth promotion and biostimulation by endophytic bacteria Data collected to support research on grass crop growth promotion and biostimulation by endophytic bacteria
These data show grass crop and model species response to toxic chemicals (Arsenic (As)) and humic acids. Experiments were performed by collaboration between the U.S. Geological Survey, Rutgers University, and Rey Juan Carlos University. A series of individual experiments investigated beneficial effects of endophytic bacteria on grass crop growth and resilience to known plant toxicity.
Fluorescence spectroscopy of ancient sedimentary organic matter via confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) Fluorescence spectroscopy of ancient sedimentary organic matter via confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM)
Fluorescence spectroscopy via confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) was used to analyze ancient sedimentary organic matter, including Tasmanites microfossils in Devonian shale and Gloecapsomorpha prisca (G. prisca) in Ordovician kukersite from North American basins. We examined fluorescence emission as a function of excitation laser wavelength, sample orientation, and with respect to...
Database of Central and Eastern North American Seismic Velocity Structure Database of Central and Eastern North American Seismic Velocity Structure
The "Database of Central and Eastern North American Seismic Velocity Structure" involves the compilation of one-dimensional (1D) seismic velocity-depth functions for central and eastern North America (CENA). The present database is an update of the report by Chulick and Mooney (2002) who present a compilation and statistical analysis of 1D seismic velocity-depth functions for North...
Organic Petrography and Diagenesis of Leonardian Mudrocks and Carbonates, Midland Basin, Texas (2018) Organic Petrography and Diagenesis of Leonardian Mudrocks and Carbonates, Midland Basin, Texas (2018)
As part of a larger study, organic petrographic features of Leonardian Wolfcamp A repetitive siliceous and calcareous mudrock and fine-grained carbonate lithofacies cycles occurring in the R. Ricker #1 core from Reagan County, Midland Basin, Texas were evaluated. The objectives of the petrographic investigation were to estimate thermal maturity, identify organic matter types and...
