The degree to which eelgrass on river deltas provides critical habitat for estuarine fishes, especially out‐migrating juvenile salmon, is an important scientific and management issue that bears on efforts to conserve and restore both eelgrass and fish.

This is a Story Map that provides a broad overview of the research performed at USGS that is relevant to the field of wildland fire science.

The Global Island Explorer has 340,691 global island polygons grouped into four size classes: continental mainlands, big islands, small islands, and very small islands. Each polygon was derived from a new 30m resolution Global Shoreline Vector (GSV) dataset that was created by interpreting coastal shorelines from 2014 satellite imagery in Google Earth Engine.

The Landsat Analysis Ready Data (ARD) Tile Conversion Tool converts a single Landsat WRS-2 path/row or latitude/longitude coordinates into the corresponding Landsat ARD tile, displays it on the map, and lists them below the map. 

In 2015, the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) sponsored data and collection preservation projects conducted by state geological surveys. Descriptions of state preservation projects, including access to preserved collections via state geological survey websites and the NGGDPP National Digital Catalog, is provided.

In September 1960, the 86th Congress passed Public Law 86-686 to facilitate cooperation between the Federal government, colleges and universities, the States, and private organizations for Cooperative Unit Programs of research and education relating to fish and wildlife, and for other purposes. The Cooperative Research Units originated in the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the mid 1930s

A new "fingerprinting" tool, developed by USGS and collaborators at University of Wisconsin-Madison, can now indicate sources of mercury.
