The second precursory flow ended at 12:18 am HST on September 23 after 34 minutes. Tilt remains flat and tremor unchanged during both overflows. This activity can go on for hours or days prior to a change in eruptive behavior. View All Messages.

The current dome fountain from the vent is approximately 80 feet (25 meters) high. It is feeding two lava flows that extend about 500 to 1000 feet (150-300 meters) to the northwest and southeast from the north vent. View All Messages.

Episodic eruption at Kīlauea summit

This eruption is within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Lava flows are contained to the caldera, but fallout from the lava fountains can affect communities downwind.
