Genetics
With the advent of affordable approaches to genetic research, natural resource managers are relying increasingly on genetic information in conservation and restoration strategies. Scientists at the GLSC conduct research on a number of different fish species in order to, for example, clarify the genetic structure of populations, identify the most successful strains of stocked fish species, or determine the sources of restored populations. Researchers at GLSC are using these same approaches to support emerging restoration strategies for native coregonid species, such as cisco.
