Lava became visible with spattering in the north vent at 12:55 am HST and began vigorously overflowing at 12::56 am HST. This appears to be the start of precursory overflows of degassed lava preceding the onset of episode 30 fountaining.
Kilauea Message 2025-08-05 08:51:55 HST
A helicopter overflight of the north vent this morning confirmed that lava is within 15-30 feet (5-10 meters) of the top of the vent. The lava is degassed and is feeding a low volume into a lava tube inside of older flows in the crater.
Kilauea Message 2025-08-04 06:08:34 HST
Lava rose in the north vent and overflowed with very little fountaining at 5:51 AM. This was followed by a drainback of lava from the vent at 5:59 AM indicating this was a precursory gas pistoning event.

Tsunami warning in effect from PTWC for all the Hawaiian Islands tonight. Here is a live cam of Coconut Island across the street from the HVO Offices at Iron Works. Stay Safe!

The data connection was restored around 12:25 AM HST. Data is currently being downloaded from instruments and backfilling the earlier data gaps
Kilauea Message 2025-07-26 00:10:14 HST
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is currently experiencing a loss of data connection to most of the seismic/deformation monitoring network that began at 8:33 PM HST. The problem is being addressed and will hopefully be resolved overnight.

Glow will persist across the vent area and Halema'uma'u crater floor tonight due to continued creep of molten material. Small collapses of partly molten material can feed small lava flows through the night.

Episode 29 ended at 6:35 PM after just over 13 hours of fountaining and 14 hours of eruption. Deflation was 18.5 microradians and produced about 9 million cubic yards (7 million cubic meters) of lava that covered over 80% of Halema'uma'u.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 11:28:54 HST
By 11:15 AM, after 6 hours of continuous episode 29 lava fountaining, UWD tiltmeter had recorded 10.8 microradians of deflation. During the past three eruptive episodes, UWD recorded 15.0, 16.3, and 18.5 microradians of deflation.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 09:30:46 HST
Episode 29 is certainly different. The "nozzle" like shape of the vent exit has broken down allowing lava to spray in multiple directions and preventing the fountains from growing higher. Deflation has exceeded 7 microradians.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 08:31:46 HST
Though the north vent has been the primary host of episode 29 activity, the south vent has been spattering since about 6:05 AM; it last erupted in episode 27 and was completely absent from episode 28.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 05:40:33 HST
Episode 29 fountains are currently erupting more sideways than vertically, creating an arcing fountain from the north vent.Flows have covered an estimated 5-10% of the floor of Halema'uma'u crater at this time.
