Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2025-09-18 20:37:02 HST
The magnidute 4.1 earthquake was felt widely across the Island of Hawaiʻi. Reported shaking was light and no damage is expected. The earthquake had no impoct on the ongoing eruptive activity.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2025-09-18 20:27:09 HST
On Thursday, September 18, 7:52 p.m. HST, a magnitude-4.1 earthquake occurred 2 mi (3 km) southwest of Pāhala on the Island of Hawaiʻi at a depth of 19 mi (31 km) below sea level. No impact on eruption.

A third event began with 10-20 foot (3-6 meter) high dome fountains as the vent filled and began overflowing at 23:23 PM HST. These overflows are vigorous and indicate degassed lava is being cleared from the vent.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-17 23:21:30 HST
Two large gas piston events with sizable overflows occurred from 22:43 to 22:51 PM HST and 23:01 to 23:17 PM HST. The second event had particularly large bubble-like bursts sending spatter 15-30 feet onto the outside of the north cone.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-17 18:37:43 HST
Spattering and flames are putting on a show from the north vent at dusk, though sporadic, spattering and flames have occurred all afternoon. Five small periods of precursory overflows occurred between 8:38 and 11:38 AM HST this morning.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-17 09:09:34 HST
Gas pistoning continued in the north vent and intermittently in the south vent. Small north vent overflows occurred at 8:38 AM and 8:59 AM HST during gas pistoning cycles. The new window for the start of episode 33 is Sept 17-20.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-16 17:37:55 HST
The appearance of magma within the north vent suggests that episode 33 might arrive earlier than tilt-based models predict (episode 32 showed similar behavior also). Revised models suggest episode 33 is likely to start between 17-20 Sept.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-16 16:01:40 HST
Starting at 10:47 AM HST today, there have been 13 gas pistoning events at the north vent. Magma rises and becomes visible in the vent; rapid drainback is marked by small spatter fountains and a spike in seismic tremor 10-15 min apart.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-02 20:09:30 HST
Episode 32 ended when the south and middle vents quit erupting at 8:01 p.m. HST on September 2. The eruption produced about 12.5 million cubic yards of lava, enough to fill a hole the size of a football field one mile deep!
Kilauea Message 2025-09-02 19:55:03 HST
North vent just shut down at 7:49 p.m. HST after just over 13 hours of fountaining. The south and middle vents continue to erupt.
Kilauea Message 2025-09-02 10:33:21 HST
The middle vent became active at about 10:10 a.m. HST followed by the south vent at 10:20 a.m. HST. Middle vent fountains are about 50 feet (15 meters) high.

The vortices on the south side of the fountain can be seen on the V3 streaming camera. The vortices are carrying volcanic pumice fragments up to 1000 feet into the air! The pumice looks like swarms of dark, angry bees on the webcam.
