Kilauea Message 2025-08-06 13:23:05 HST
Episode 30 lava fountains from the north vent ceased erupting at 12:55 PM HST today August 6. The south cone quit erupting about 5 minutes earlier. Summit tiltmeters recorded over 22 microradians of tilt loss,
Kilauea Message 2025-08-06 02:35:29 HST
The southernmost vent is a new fissure that opened up around 1:12 AM HST this morning. It was accompanied by a small cluster of earthquakes and some ground deformation.
Kilauea Message 2025-08-06 01:27:58 HST
More vigorous dome fountaining began at both vents at 1:20 AM HST. Fountains from the north vent rapidly grew and are now approximately 30-70 feet high (10-20 meters) and increasing.
Kilauea Message 2025-08-06 01:17:12 HST
The south vent began erupting at 1:12 AM HST, north vent continues as well.
Kilauea Message 2025-08-06 01:08:47 HST
Lava became visible with spattering in the north vent at 12:55 am HST and began vigorously overflowing at 12::56 am HST. This appears to be the start of precursory overflows of degassed lava preceding the onset of episode 30 fountaining.
Kilauea Message 2025-08-05 08:51:55 HST
A helicopter overflight of the north vent this morning confirmed that lava is within 15-30 feet (5-10 meters) of the top of the vent. The lava is degassed and is feeding a low volume into a lava tube inside of older flows in the crater.
Kilauea Message 2025-08-04 06:08:34 HST
Lava rose in the north vent and overflowed with very little fountaining at 5:51 AM. This was followed by a drainback of lava from the vent at 5:59 AM indicating this was a precursory gas pistoning event.
Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Message 2025-07-29 20:07:55 HST
Tsunami warning in effect from PTWC for all the Hawaiian Islands tonight. Here is a live cam of Coconut Island across the street from the HVO Offices at Iron Works. Stay Safe! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sax7_...
Kilauea Message 2025-07-26 00:34:56 HST
The data connection was restored around 12:25 AM HST. Data is currently being downloaded from instruments and backfilling the earlier data gaps
Kilauea Message 2025-07-26 00:10:14 HST
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is currently experiencing a loss of data connection to most of the seismic/deformation monitoring network that began at 8:33 PM HST. The problem is being addressed and will hopefully be resolved overnight.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 19:25:18 HST
Glow will persist across the vent area and Halema'uma'u crater floor tonight due to continued creep of molten material. Small collapses of partly molten material can feed small lava flows through the night.
Kilauea Message 2025-07-20 18:45:55 HST
Episode 29 ended at 6:35 PM after just over 13 hours of fountaining and 14 hours of eruption. Deflation was 18.5 microradians and produced about 9 million cubic yards (7 million cubic meters) of lava that covered over 80% of Halema'uma'u.
